Athens Info

Can anybody provide information about the Athens market? My hunt for work is driving me to the east.

It seems as if it is a Southern Broadcasting town? Any stations Southern doesn't own? How much is the Southern operation unified (like OM's over multiple signals etc)?

You can respond privately to [email protected].

Thanks

i know they don't own wbkz 88am or wuog the UGA station.

Southern Broadcasting owns all but the following in Athens:

WXAG (religious)
WBKZ (religious)
WMSL (religious)-Prince Avenue Baptist
WUOG (UGA) (students)
WUGA (UGA Public Affairs, GPB, NPR)
WPPP-LP (non commercial)

BTW, Southern is hoping to expand soon.

Aren't they moving in 100.1? When is that going to happen?

They are moving 100.1 I don't know the target date. I've also heard they want to buy at least one other "nearby" signal.

When will WPUP (Bulldog 103-7) move to Arcade? What is the hold-up? I've heard there were property issues, but those were resolved? No one seems to know anything and I no longer have any contacts at Southern to ask questions. They waste so much signal in South Carolina where there are signals at 103.5 and 103.9. It needs to move further west. I think this will be a great move for them and I like the coverage from the site selected, but what is the hold-up? Anyone know when the move may happen?<P ID="signature">______________
