Athens -- Rock 103.7

Anyone know what's going on at Athens radio station Rock 103.7? They're playing some annoying Barbara Streisand song over and over again since last night.

I think they're currently simulcasting the government's "Legal Torture Radio" format that went over like gangbusters at Gitmo. Future adds to the playlist include the Macarena, "Achy Breaky Heart", and the Uriah Heep classic "Magician's Birthday".

And their website currently redirects to Fark. Hhhmmm. Maybe Bob & Tom in the morning and easy standards all day?

If this is a format change, I'm very shocked, being based out of Athens & being a college town. While they've been repeating "The Way We Were" by Barbra Steisand, they've been playing a spot saying the Bulldog is back, as if they're planning to go back to being Bulldog 103.7. Hopefully, Southern Broadcasting isn't abandoning the rock format at 103.7.

Moving to Arcade Soon

They are also playing an old Bulldogs fight song and saying "The Bulldog is back." I'm guessing they will brodcast from their new tower soon as 103.7 The Bulldog. Currently they are still using the old tower though. UGA Fall Semester starts on the 18th of this month. I do know the CP was approved in late June. They've had enough time to build a 322 foot tower. The question is...will they have the same format by the first day of class at UGA? :-D
______________

I was just reviewing the 60dbu coverage maps at the FCC website for WPUP and see that Athens is only getting a slightly improved signal at 103.7fm. I guess the big reason for this move was to add Gainesville into the the 60dbu coverage range.I also see that Barrow county is covered heavily with the 60dbu with the new signal. I really wonder if a major format change is in the works because there is no rock signal serving this area outside of 96 rock and Rock 101.

I was listening to 103.7 in the Decatur/Candler Road/Flat Shoals/I-285 area this afternnon, and the signal strength was alternation from weak to very strong. It will be interesting to see what happens with the station. my hope is that this is a publicity stunt where only the name, not the format changes.

Rock 103.7 is stunting right now. Monday will debut a new format and a new name... something to do with the W-PUP, and the mascot of UGA.

plus the barrow county area will have a good signal, due to the posts about
the maps that some have seen.

The new "Bulldog" is on

Tuned in this morning to their morning show. Same jocks, but instead of being called the Morning Rock they're now "Quality Time" w/ Chris and Jen.

Music-wise it's kind of a weird mix of AAA/classic rock. So far I've heard Rolling Stones, Queen, John Mayer, The Police and several other bands/artists I've never heard of. Very much like Dave FM.

Production is very light. I guess this doesn't bode well for my favorite shows -- the hair metal show on Friday night and the blues show on Sunday.

I wonder if the rest of their jocks will be the same?

Re: The new "Bulldog" is on

So far, they are still using the same tower. A format adjustment and weekend of stunting out-of-format should've been the perfect time to try out the new tower and ID as Arcade-Athens-Gainesville and North Georgia. I guess we'll have to wait for the improved signal. They should've waited until they were ready for the move to adjust the format.
______________

Re: The new "Bulldog" is on

I'm disappointed in the music direction that Bulldog 1037 has taken. Too much on the softer side of rock for my taste. They've taken away the occasional hair bands they used to play and has added artists like Bob Marley, Van Morrison, Coldplay, and David Bowie. I guess gone are the days of hearing artists like Metallica, Godsmack, and Nirvana being played on there.

I'm about to shoot off an e-mail to the station (still can log on to Rock1037.com) to make my comments known. This music can already be heard on Dave FM and the music of Rock 103.7 before the switch was fine in my opinion.

All the on-air personalities are the same. It looks like such shows as the Big Hair Ball and the Tour Bus are gone. The 6-pack at six is no longer featured as well. This present music playlist reminds me of the music played on the former Classic Lunch.

I remember my big complaint when Bulldog 103.7 originally switched to Rock 103.7 was the leaning on older rock music at the time. I feel the station evolved music wise over the 7-8 years as "the Rock Station." I'm not sure if this new softer side of Rock at 103.7 will fly being a college town.

Re: The new "Bulldog" is on

FYI: the big hair ball will remain and will be extended by one hour.
