ATL TV Stations starting up 4:30 am Newscasts

Just saw on Rodney's blog that WSB is starting a 4:30 am newscast. Why in the world do we need news at 4:30 am? Are people leaving that early for work at that time?

Yup!

I live up around the North edge of Lake Lanier. Used to work in Norcross. I was up at five or earlier, and on the road by 6:45 during the school months if I wanted to be at work at 8:00 A.M.

If my commute had been to the Midtown or Downtown Atlanta area I would have been up earlier.

I live on one of those roads marked "No Outlet" so I get a lot of traffic in front of my house that originated in the next 1.5 miles. The traffic begins a bit lightly at 4 A.M. Don't go out at 6:30 to pickup the paper in your skivvies unless you want to be seen by several people. I've picked up the paper in the dark at 5:30 A.M. to be startled by the plop-plop-plop of a jogger who was probably as startled to find me that near his path.

Once had a conference to attend at the little Convention Center at the southwest edge of the airport. I allowed three hours to get there at 9 (55 miles). I was thirty minutes late.

Yup!
The recession has eased Atlanta traffic a bit. If things pick up by the time school stars back (or whenever it does), look out! You'll be watching Craig Ferguson with your Cheerios and coffee!
