ATLANTA 24/7 LOCAL WEATHER ON CABLE/SATELLITE...............

I have DIRECT TV as my satellite service because frankly, it's working out MUCH better than COMCAST, CHARTER, and I hate DISH NETWORK)! Anyway, I was just wondering if there's ANY chance that one of the local ATLANTA TV stations will put their 24/7 local weather service on DIRECT TV. I know that WXIA-11 has 24/7 weather on either DISH or COMCAST...(not sure which) but I need something like this on DIRECT TV.

Any thoughts?

11 Alive's HD-2 channel, NBC Weather Plus is on Comcast. Right now, it's not a "must carry" or considered one of the local channels for Dish or DirecTV to carry.

I hear tale that, if you plug in the phone cable in your receiver, TWC sends updates for their channel instead of having the generic wx report on the lower 3rd. In my case, I've got internet on my phone, so I either check TWC or 11 Alive mobile for my local weather, unless there's storms in the area, then I check WSB's mobile website. I find 11 Alive's "Power Plus One Million" Doppler page doesn't update frequently enough, and the image I'm looking at is actually 20 - 30 min old. During the Mother's Day storms, WSB's updated every 10 min and was quite accurate.

Have you tried an antenna? It will get you the local multicast channels, and should be much better quality than the standard-definition locals on DBS.

Ummm, yeah.... 1) I don't have a DTV converter box, nor or interested in purchasing one since I've got DBS, and 2) I ran "rabbit ears" for about seven years before getting DirecTV, so I'm not going back to that route...

...On the other hand, an antenna on hand would be handy in the event of a downpour and my DBS signal is compromised, which my DSL is also knocked out (50 yr old house on copper wire all the way from the central office to the house) by the wind and rain.

Actually, the best radar for your internet enabled cell phone is from the National Weather Service

It is updated every 4 minutes.

Hey, thanks for the URL. I'll check into this one.

Hey Floyd, I also have DBS and Cable internet, but bought the converter box. It comes in handy when your stuff goes off-line during storms. And some stations just display their radar on some of the multi-channels. I'd recommend getting one. Not a bad investment.
