ATLANTA all news station ????

Has Atlanta ever tried or d'you think there could be an all news station here??

I mean ALL NEWS 24/7......."you give us 22 minutes and we'll give you the world!"

I lived in New York and I miss stuff like this especially "traffic/weather on the 8's"...or "1's"....whatever (even during the overnights too)! Just curious.

Thanks!

I believe WGST was doing this before somebody decided the low TSL that All News formats typically encounter was not appealing to advertisers and blew it up. Again...I THINK! Of course, that could be my problem. ;D

I believe it was 680 (WCNN?) that tried the all news 24/7 format for a few years. For me, 24/7 news is not very entertaining and may explain why it did not make it in this smaller market.

Actually you are both right. It is both a floor wax and a dessert topping...uh, I mean, WGST was "all news" in the early 1980's, when it operated on 920 kc. WCNN tried an "all news" format in the late 1980's. If you want a true "all news" fix now, you have to tune in WCBS-AM, or WBBM-AM on the skywave at night. WINS is barely audible here. Anyone remember this:

"Wake up to the world, Newsradio 92..."

The only station that could do it and do it right would be WSB-AM. Unfortuantly, I do not see them getting rid of the talk programming anytime soon.

I too miss all news. When I get in a cab in NYC, they always seem to have WINS on. Chicago I hear WBBM in the cabs. In Atlanta, it seems all of our cabs are playing NPR. What does that say about our local radio?

:D

...not sure about the cabs, but when you rent a car you'll find the radio tuned to hip/hop and the volume turned all the way up... for your convenience, of course.

Actually, it appears to be a growing trend. In four other locations in the Southeast, the cab drivers I hired always had NPR on the radio. And I don't think they were listening for the local traffic reports.

Like a reverse Planet Radio?

Hmmm, we have plenty of access to news all day via the web and TV. I don't think an all news radio network would last long.
