FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Atlanta television and radio broadcaster Jeff Batten has finalized an agreement with Rehoboth Beach Communications, Inc. to purchase Clarkesville radio station WCHM 1490AM, it was announced today. The sale is pending FCC approval.
“It only took me five minutes to drive through Clarkesville and Habersham County and another 10 minutes to meet the devoted staff for me to fall in love with the idea of owning and operating WCHM,” Batten said. “The station is a hidden jewel in a wonderful area, and I have great plans to bring it to life.”
WCHM airs a blend of syndicated talk shows, including Glen Beck, Sean Hannity and Neal Boortz, along with a strong morning program, “Good Morning Habersham,” hosted by Jen Speed and Hazel Cording.
“A local community station needs great programming and we’ve got three of the best-known national talk show hosts all to ourselves,” Batten said. “But a community station also needs to be as ‘hyperlocal’ as it can be, and that means an emphasis on local sports, schools and governmental information, and issues that matter to Habersham County. There are stations in the area with bigger signals but WCHM is the only one that can truly call Habersham its own.”
Batten has plans to strengthen its programming staff and raise the station’s visibility immediately upon receiving the FCC license. “People are going to find out quickly that we’re going to compete for listeners, customers and attention in Habersham County.”
Jeff Batten owns Batten Communications, Inc., the largest independent television/radio production company in the Southeast and also owns three vocational broadcasting schools in Atlanta. More information is available at battencommunications.com and 1490wchm.com.
