ATLANTA & COMPANY ON WXIA-11

Am I the only one here that thinks "Atlanta & Company" is just awful! Mornings at 11am on a major Atlanta network affiliate, it's just dreadful, to watch! If I'm channel flipping and land on WXIA during Atl & Co, I always think it's just some paid-program because of the low budget lighting and the cheesy fake kitchen set. PLUS, the guy and girl hosts of the show, to me have ABSOLUTELY no chemistry. The blond girl host seems like she hates being there and the guy host seems too overly happy.

I've only lived in ATL for a couple of years and I honestly can't sit through it long enough to know what the shows purpose is. I've asked many of my atlanta-native friends about it and when I tell them how bad I think it is, they look at me like......"DON'T YOU BAD MOUTH OUR CITY....THAT SHOW IS SUCH A STAPLE HERE!"

What is it with this show? Why is it so popular that it's been on for years? Do that many MORE people really watch "Atlanta & Company" at 11:00 rather than NETWORKED "Price Is Right" and "The View"?

If it's really something worth watching I'll see what the big deal is about it.

I guess I'm just a newby in the dark. ::)

Thanks.

11alive used to have a program similar to Atlanta and Company back in the 90s called Noonday. From 12-12:30 there was news, then from 12:30-1:00 a program on current Atlanta events. Jill Becker was the main host and had various co-hosts such as Bob Sekoler and Steve from Steve and Vicki. It was decent, but I agree that I cannot stand to watch Atlanta and Company.

Noonday (198? to 1993) - Noon-1 PM - Jill Becker and a male co-host
Hello Georgia (1993-1997) - 3 PM - 4 PM - Former WXIA skycam pilot Bruce Erion (now Medivac pilot) and another male co-host.
Peachtree Morning (1997-2000) - 11 AM - Noon - Carmen Burns (now at WABE) and another co-host - produced from a hotel near Centinneal Park.

All of the above were productions of the news department. Atlanta and Company was created to sell interview segments to local businesses. The entertainment features are filler. As such, Atlanta and Company is a production of the creative services department, not news.

Atlanta and Company exists solely as a revenue generator for WXIA - nothing else.

Patricia Hunt and Bob Sekoler (spelling) hosted 11alive at 5 during the early 90s. It was a great show. There were news updates, but the show focused on the happenings of North Georgia, not just Atlanta. I think 11alive should think about doing a show like this again. They need to drop Dr. Phil at 5 and reorganize their news division. Their news programs at 6, 7, 10 and 11 all repeat themselves.

I remember Peachtree Morning. I use to watch it all the time when I first moved here.

Does anyone remember Atlanta Tonight on UPN. That was a GREAT show

My boy Matt Stewart was one of the last hosts of Peachtree Morning. He's the face of CSS now.

Atlanta & Company must be getting results for its sponsors. Honestly, that's all morning programming is good for, if there's no noon news product.

If Channel 11 was still the ABC affiliate they'd
be carrying "The View" at 11 AM. Which is worse?

BTW, "Atlanta & Company" is not some original idea
from the programming department at 11 Alive; their
sister station in Denver, KUSA, has a show called
"Colorado & Company" which predates 11's show.
Also, several Media General stations (Tampa, Columbus, GA,
and Raleigh that I know of) have a show called "Daytime,"
which is also a series of infomercials disguised as a talk show.

I'm not sure if this is a rhetorical question, but Atlanta & Company is MUCH worse...

I agree that there is some chemistry missing, and the guy looks like he has a smile surgically implanted on his face. Then I found out the show is an infomercial. Time to change channels.

:D
When I was working from home I couldn't run FAST enough to get that hoRRENDOUS show off after the Today Show. It's even WORSE than listening to Kathie Lee... which is a STREEEETTTTCH!

It was WORSE with Ryan Cameron... talk about a face for Radio... ... the blond is not much better and the guy with the painted smile.... it's actually painful... :'(
