Atlanta in HD

I was reviewing the availability of HD radio in Atlanta and notice that all local FM stations except 94.1 & 104.7 are on-air in HD. On Monday the HD radio alliance announced that Atlanta was one of 28 markets that will offer unique formats on HD2 multicast channels.

I do not see any formats that interest me as of yet but I am sure something may lead me to buy an HD radio.

SAN ANTONIO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 19, 2006--Clear Channel Communications, Inc. (NYSE:CCU)

-- Aggressive Rollout Begins Today With New York and San Francisco; Dallas on Friday; Los Angeles and Chicago Bow Monday

-- Multicasts Will Also Stream on FM-Station Web Sites; HD Radio Giveaways and On-Air Promotions On Tap

-- Country Comes to New York; San Francisco Swings to Jazz, Extreme Hip Hop and "Wild Espanol"

Over the next five days, 25 Clear Channel Radio stations in five markets will turn on their HD2 multicast digital radio channels. Within two weeks, another 82 stations in 20 more markets will light up HD2 multicasts. The aggressive rollout also includes online streaming of the new channels as well as on-air giveaways of HD Radios. In every local market, the HD2 multicasts will either complement existing on-air programming or bring entirely new music or spoken-word genres to listeners.

"Our programmers attacked this opportunity with incredible intensity and passion -- they've created a massive infusion of new programming to radio," said John Hogan, president and CEO of Clear Channel Radio. "We're making these multicast channels available online at launch because once listeners hear the incredible variety and depth of these genres, we fully expect receivers to start flying off the shelves because the audio quality of an HD digital radio broadcast is amazing."

Clear Channel Radio mounted a massive additional programming effort 15 months ago to underpin the company's growth as an information and entertainment content provider. Programming talent from within and outside the company has been tapped, including veteran innovative programmers and new hires not steeped in radio tradition. Today, the company's exclusive and premium content feeds a broad range of personal information and entertainment devices including iPods, Motorola's iRadio service, radio-station Web sites, in-car and mobile navigation systems, and HD2 multicasts.

More than 15 manufacturers currently offer HD digital radio receivers. Online and in-store retailers carrying HD digital radio receivers include: ABC Warehouse, Audio Adviser, Bjorn's, Boston Acoustics, Car Toys, Great Indoors (a unit of Sears Roebuck & Co.), Harvey's, eBay, J & R Music, Listen Up, Magnolia Audio Video, One Call, Ovation AV, Radiosophy, Tweeter and Ultimate.

About HD Digital Radio

HD Radio technology enables radio broadcasters to segment a single, existing radio frequency so that it can carry multiple, simultaneous, higher-quality AM and FM broadcast streams as well as wireless data. All HD Radio broadcasts are free from the static, hiss, pops and fades that can be associated with analog signals. For listeners, AM-band broadcasts sound like FM, and FM-band broadcasts have digital CD-like quality. The wireless data feature enables text information on songs to be broadcast directly to receiver display screens. There is no subscription fee required to hear primary or multicast HD digital radio broadcasts.

Clear Channel Radio has more than 200 stations offering primary broadcasts in digital quality. The company is a founding member of the HD Digital Radio Alliance -- a joint initiative of leading radio companies to accelerate the roll-out of HD digital radio -- and is devoting on-air promotion time as part of an industry-wide marketing effort that will exceed $200 million.

About Clear Channel Radio

Well

Dave Fm, Star94, V-103, All the radio one stations except Hot 107.9, and The Fish, are not running their HD if they have it.

The Clear Channel stations are running an HD2 sub channel on all thier signals. The fringe coverage is not very good.

Great. I'll be able to listen to these in 3 years when the prices of HD radios are made reasonable.
