Atlanta Programming

It seems that few, if any, who post regularly on this board are happy with anything on the air in Atlanta. Formats, playlists, personalities and ownership are all blasted on a daily basis. As an impromptu survey, what would make you happy with Atlanta radio? What would you change? The only thing to keep in mind is it must appeal to an audience larger than your family and immediate circle of friends and must have a realistic shot at being financially successful. This is going no where else but here so no need to flame another person;s opinion just express yours.

I think the problem with Atlanta radio is it is LAME, there are no pushing the envelopes, there is no spontaniety, and certainly boring playlists.. Let's also admit that the news gathering sources of the two main AM'ers is pathetic. New stations I would implement..

Solid 24/7 news mix with CNN and Local news.. (FM)

Dinner Hour music.. (an hour of uninterrupted soft music) from Sinatra
to Enya to Dianne Krall.

Klassic Kountry no country music after 1981.

Retro Alternative (what was 99x)

Real Oldies with reverb, echo effects, sock hop and the whole 9 yards with PAMS jingles Make the oldies NEW again, with 1000 song playlist.

Hot talk FM Tom Leykis, and other souls to push the envelope.

Shutter AM640
Shutter 680 The Fan

Local venue station, that goes to places like Northside Tavern, Tabernacle and other locales..

I agree with you-it is lame in many ways, which is why I stream
radio from the internet when I am home most of the time or listen
to Live365.com for my music.

I have mentioned this before, but it would be great for Atlanta to
have a news station in the mold of WBBM Chicago or WCBS New York.
We have more than enough News/Talk Hot Air here, and just how much
sports talk do you need for underachieving Atlanta sports teams???
Infinity should put up some cash to Dickey and take 680 and turn
it into all-news.

Go to www.thebigtalker1210.com and see about their Sinatra
show they have on the weekends, would like to have a station
here in Atlanta carry something similar.

I was surprised when I moved here 11 years ago that there was not a station like WCBS. It is a solid station at all times of the day. For those who don't know it is kind of like Scott Slades morning show 24/7. The last time I checked Scott's format is quite impressive in the ratings. One diffe3rence is though WCBS ius a clear channel station so it has 20 million available listeners at anytime I think though in recent years they have addded sports coverage, like maybe the Yankeees and Giants.

Yes, back during the early to mid 1980's the old "Ring Radio"
WRNG 680 became WCNN all-news 680, but with the live simulcast
of CNN Headline News almost 24/7 round the clock. What I
was talking about was Atlanta having a locally-produced news
station with live, local newscasters much like the stations
I mentioned like WBBM or WCBS. The Headline News simulcast
flopped in the Atlanta ratings big-time, and then 680 changed
formats again in the late 80's.

Re: Atlanta Programming News

yes, the simulcast of CNN or Fox is not the answer.. what I see is having Harry Beadle, Wade Medlock and Wendy Grossman scouring the town and suburbs for news... As it is, it seems that AM750 has to rely (way too much for my tastes) on WSB-TV for a continuous news flow.
I think the News slogan at 1010 WINS in New York is give us 27 minutes and we give you the world..

Before the implosion brought by Planet Radio and the horrible ValueJet transcript reading, 'GST had a chance with Denis O'Hare and Sixty at 6. Now 'GST is just pure junk.

And yes pure news, no senseless drivel (from obnoxious talk show hosts).. The only time the listeners do get to call in is to either win a prize, or when being a "news reporter" on a breaking news. I just never got simulcasting unless it's a real disaster..

Come on People. Radio in Atlanta has been crap at best since the late 70's-early 80's. At that time we had a couple of stations that were edgy and some morning teams that were willing to take a chance and play it close to that edge. But this is such an uptight State those people were either fired and run out of town, our like one of those great morning teams did, get a better offer somewhere else ans shag on out of here. Until someone decides to make a stand radio in Atlanta will continue to wallow in it's own regurgitated slop. The nothing more. Nothing less. The Motto should be: Atlanta Radio-It is what it is. Good Luck to you all.
