I don't have the numbers/percentages but I believe CHRs bill better than their 6+ numbers show. Atlanta is the unofficial Capitol of the south, thus Country will be a factor in this market.
IMHO Cumulus has had more success in smaller markets but there is a lot more money in the big markets. It is all about the money!

6+, 99X is Cumulus’s highest rated station in their Atlanta cluster. LOVE IT!

Q would be screwed without The Bert Show.
Look at Power 96.

That said, billings vs ratings are probably what is keeping Power 96 afloat.

Cumulus's early success was based on dominating smaller markets for ad buys. When they moved to larger markets with other big fish like iHeart/Clear Channel, that didn't work as well.

Top 5+ demo rankings analysis from Research Director, Inc.:

25-54: 1. WSRV 2. WFSH (up from #9) 3. WNNX 4. WVEE 5T. WAMJ 5T. WSB-AM 5T. WWWQ (up from #8)
18-34: 1. WFSH (up from #5) 2. WSRV 3. WVEE 4. WSB-AM 5. WWWQ
18-49: 1. WFSH (up from #6) 2. WSRV 3. WNNX 4. WVEE 5. WAMJ 7. WWWQ

Bankruptcy sometimes causes things to "happen". Like the Cumulus station sales to KLove after clearing Bankruptcy.

But in the pre BR days I always wondered why Cumulus put their news, news talk, eventually Republicans talk on 106.7. 100.5 is an inside the perimeter signal. Based on demographics, most of the potential P1 folks for 100.5 most likely live north of Midtown. IMHO 99 X (even the old Rock 100) on a full class C signal (106.7) would have done better. It was a much cheaper operation to run than New Talk too. But Cumulus let their best chance (signal wise) to challenge 97.1 go to KLove.

WSB is a great station. It has evolved to keep up with the times. And a couple of WSB's shows, specifically Mark Arum and Eric Von Haessler, are somewhat young in appeal.

That notwithstanding, am I the only one who is slightly skeptical that WSB is #4 in 18-34? Terrestrial radio listening in that demo is down, and I wonder if a small and therefore unstable sample is being weighted up. Who knows?

Not everyone under 34 can work at home. My personal experience: WSB is about 10 minutes ahead of WAZE in wreck reporting which can really make a difference.

Yes, and a WAZE accident icon is practically useless on, for instance, 400SB at 285 because you don't know for sure if it's on one of the feeder lanes.

I wish Power 96.1 would get a local morning show. I guess that would cost them too much money to do that. I think that would catapult them to above a 3 share. Scotty K and Riley were the best. But I guess we can’t turn back the hands of time can we.

I agree with you. I also think iHeart is paying Jubal a lot of money and needs to amortize his show over several markets.

EvH's rock radio heritage helps in the younger demos. He's basically a younger Neal Boortz and has filled that niche at WSB well. Boortz, if I remember correctly, was an early postwar boomer, while vH is a tail-end boomer/early GenXer. The politics are similar but EvH is less "judgmental".

Go back and listen to some of Boortz's 1970s Ring Radio airchecks before Neal became a grumpy old man :) and you can see the resemblance.

Also like Boortz, he has a great supportive air staff to add more color and depth to the show.

I don't care for Arum's show--it's great radio, just not my cup of tea.

WSB has been fortunate to find effective replacements for the talk hosts they've lost. When Boortz retired, they installed Herman Cain but eventually moved Eric Von Haessler, who is perfect for the slot, into it. On a smaller scale, when Walter Reeves retired from the Saturday morning Lawn & Garden Show, they gave the slot to traffic reporter Ashley Frasca. I don't know how they knew she would be a great fit, but she certainly is and does an amazing job. Erick Erickson is not Rush Limbaugh, but he handles his show really well and gives CMG content for their other News and Talk stations.

Amazing performance for 99X!

I knew all along "it's the signal" was not a valid excuse for Rock 100.5's multiple years of poor ratings. The main issue was the programming!

Huh? I listened to Boortz from his WRNG days and comparing him to EVH is an insult to Boortz. Boortz was very smart and intellectually consistent for decades. When the orange man got crazy, Boortz called him out for what he is. EVH literally says there is no difference in the parties. EVH is playing to the aggrieved crowd with no logic at all. If you know any of the SB producers from the 80's - 2000's I think you'd hear a similar take.
