Atlanta sports hosts heading to Philadelphia

Who are the top sports talkers in the market, do any have ties to philadelphia? Rumors are that philly is looking to hire talent from top 30 markets to replace aging curent talent.

The longest running show in the market is Buck and Kincade on 680. Kincade is a Philly native and that may be where the rumor is coming from. The show is around 8 years running and I doubt that either guy would be leaving Atlanta anytime soon. They are both well entrenched and I am sure well compensated. Kincade is a die hard Eagles fan but would probably lose his ESPN gig if he left Atlanta, so I don't see that as a viable rumor with him. Unless there is an ESPN affiliate in Philly which I don't know about. I think Philly is the only city without one.
Chris Dimino is on 790 and I believe is from the NJ area. He may be looking to branch out into the NE.
I believe Nick Cellini is from Ohio.
Could the recently unemployed Matt Chernoff be looking out of market?

I made a call to the sports station in Philadelphia and alerted them that the best sports personality in Atlanta is so beloved and so ensconced that he would never, ever, ever, leave. I told them that making a play for him would be a huge error in business judgment.

Knowing that you try hardest to get what you can't have, look for the station to make a move for Steven "Brisket" Shapiro.

Chernoff, maybe? Kincade, doubtful. Who would leave Atlanta for Philly? They would have to pay him triple.

950/WPEN Philadelphia, just hired a Philly local, Mike Missanelli, who worked at cross-town 610/WIP Philadelphia, before an altercation with his board-op got him canned from WIP two years ago. This to add local flavor to the ESPN affiliation WPEN picks up April 1. Greater Media, owner of WPEN, exhibits, generally anemic ratings with WPEN, as they have made the prudent decision not to invest in the sport format they, so eagerly switched to three years ago. Missanelli’s deal probably represents the total annual budget. It is however regrettable that they will unlikely afford additional investment in talent.

Doing the chinese food Easter ritual today I ran into a guy working in local radio.
I posed the question to him about who would jump to Philly from Atlanta.
His guess was Dimino as he is probably unhappy not being featured enough on 790.
His second guess was Kincade as he is a Philly native.
Listening to both guys they both sound very happy here so something keeps pointing me to Chernoff.

No offense to Chernoff, but if he couldn't cut it in Atlanta, there's no way he'd make it in a real sports talk town like Philly.

Doesn't Chernoff still have the TV gig at Comcast plus Falcons football on DAVE? He's not leaving for the "Ila" anytime soon.

While I doubt anyone from Atlanta is headed there. ComCast is based in Philly so not a stretch to assume he could get a similar role.

Steak could only go if his father or Saltzman"s bought the station.
That is the only way he could get a gig in ATL.
He could never break through in Boston, he was Eddie Andelman's valet/butler. He was a laughing stock in Boston accoring to those who know in that market.

Seems to me that this is something the PD at Dave should already know... ;D :D

I wonder if he still does have his Facons gig. I have heard the Zakkster talk about being part of the pre-game and post-game shows.

Also to bad it ain't Branon and Woolvy. I just heard their awesome mid-day show about how Javy Lopez is one of the 12 all-time great Atlanta Braves but Greg Maddux is not?

What will tomorrow's topic be? Great Atlanta Falcons cornerback Michael Booker?

I don't think Chernoff left 790 because he "couldn't cut it". It seems that the mysterious divorce proceeding leave of absence is at work here.

Sadly, I think Dimino is perfectly happy at 790, I can't imagine how he could think he's getting shorted on mic time because he takes up the space of three people as it is. He also does a St. L show in the afternoon if I'm not mistaken.

Plus he does Hardball during baseball season. His wife is from here also so I doubt he is leaving.

Haven't the Falcons suffered enough? Vick, Petrino, trading/releasing all their name players, the Dome loses parts of its roof and now Zakk Tyler will be in the pre- and post-game shows.

I too heard that conversation about the 12 greatest Braves. I guess winning three consecutive Cy Youngs in a Brave uni isn't good enough. A three-time All-Star with a career .287 is good enough to be one of the greatest Braves.

Wasn't Steak doing mornings on WCNN?

Yes, Steak once did mornings on 680. It was Steak, Beau and AJ Cannon, if memory serves.
