Atlanta Tornadoes

So now we know what happens when tornadoes come to Atlanta. All News provides the coverage, while Fox only supports them. Their coverage has been awesome, and they're utilizing their own reporters who have wether ties (John Askins, Randy Wyles and Mark Woolsey.) I have even heard live weather reports updated every five minutes by someone with meteorology degree. Great coverage!

Hopefully, AN106.7 has learned it's lesson from last week. The coverage today has been excellent. I tuned in to WSB and had to listen to the weather chirp behind Herman Cain complaining about something about a credit card and Skymiles. His voice is soooooo annoying. The chirp and his voice made me tune back to AN106.7. I could not even wait for the weather bulletin.

Last week's winter weather event was nothing for most of metro Atlanta. The soon to begin spring severe weather season that is giving us a preview today is a real weather event impacting metro citizens. Its very close to impossible for us to have measurable winter precipt but severe weather from thunderstorms and tornadoes is a part of our weather cycle every year. So Mostly News 106.7 is going heavy on weather when it actually makes sense.

It's the difference between having a REAL weather threat and some hyped up non story like the winter weather turned out to be. [posted same time as Rick Rose who is also 100% correct]

Remember though, WSB only goes into weather mode when the weather is impacting "metro Atlanta" which by definition does not include Floyd County.

AN106.7 is missing the breaking story about injuries from a touchdown in Bartow County. There are people trapped in a building according to AJC.com.

EDIT: AJC.com posted at 11:31 AM and AN106.7 mentioned the damage at 11:40 AM. I know this is not a lot of time, but I just find it interesting.

maybe the storm coverage today is proper fitting the formats of Mostly News 106.7 and News/Talk WSB. Constant updates during their news wheel is appropriate for WYAY and airing regular talk programming on WSB with weather bulletins when needed works for their format.

I am in Stockbridge headed to Spring Street in Atlanta for an appointment and i will use MN106.7 as my source of entertainment on most of the commute (some 92.9 and 93.7) so i will be prepared for any stormy weather on my way home

AN106.7 just did something that is new for them. Connie Cummings did a live report about the damage in Adairsville and spoke with someone in the sheriffs office. She and the deputy mentioned the next line of storms coming through. When John Askins did a weather update a minute later he made reference to "that line of storms that Connie just mentioned". That is a news team. We need more of that.

Funny: AN106.7 just broadcast a WSB-TV report on air because the report came down the ABC Radio Newscast at the top of the hour.

WSB carried Rush at the start but by the time I left an appointment and got back in my car @ 1:40PM to my surprise it was Clark Howard taking live calls for "WSB's Storm Center Coverage" (or whatever they call it). The dittoheads can not be pleased.

What is this severe weather sounder(?) that WSB keeps playing? It sounds like bad classic country twang.

Sounds like its downstream from programming (like the TOH beep). It airs over commercials. I'm not sure whether it is WSB's choice to air it or not as it is the "go to" station in the EAS setup (I sure someone can explain better than I).
;)

From what I understand it has nothing to do with EAS. It's just something a lot of Cox stations do. I first heard it on Cox's newstalker in Tulsa about a year ago.

I thought the "injection point" stations for ATL EAS were WSB-FM and WUBL...?

IIRC WSB tried getting rid of the TOH beep several years back and all kinds of hell was raised by loyal listeners.

Come on, WSB, Get rid of that stupid chirp. It's pointless and annoying. (Remember the old Z93 Classic Rock chirp? It was equally pointless)
