Atlanta's Gone!

No more smooth jazz in hot Lanta! Great calls on the loose. Get those specialty shows ready for AC or another delivery system. Remember that the format may be toast but the music is still viable. Got to look at this as an opportunity to do it right again. Just figure out where.

AMEN, Phil Harmonic! (Miss saying that!). The door is wide open! Go for it! All of you!

Added note...just saw that the Cincinnati smooth jazz AM (WCIN) has been sold to some folks who were leasing another AM in the market and doing oldies. WCIN didn't do much ratings wise but they were good people and get an "A" for their effort. I'm just assuming that you can kiss smooth jazz buh bye in the Queen City. Here's another opportunity to do it right!

Here's my question. How do you get someone to listen (a program director)? So much negative publicity inside the industry for the music and they are not very smart to the music?

On a side note, I am trying to do my part. In the process of moving my show over from a 800 watt stick to a 10,000 watter. Still a non comm but this one gets out.

Nock

WTF I went to take a listen to WJZZ 107.5 and they're still playing their smooth jazz/AC crap BA garbage?

Heard the overplayed Marvin Gaye Sexual Healing cut then a Kim Waters tune, so I assume they're still around.

BTW WCIN AM used to have a great stream I listened to exclusively when they carried Jones. Another outlet that switched to Broadcrap Architecture but still uses Keith Riker for their station liners and ID's.

EDIT: JUST READ THE NEWS ON R&R. :-[ ANOTHER BA BITES THE DUST, I COULDN'T BE HAPPIER!! ;D

Maybe Carol Archer should write another column on BA and their superb product since she's just a mouthpiece for that dope Kepler. Idiots!!!

You may be pleasantly surprised to know that the new owners of WCIN plan to keep the SJ format. They also LMA the AM Oldies station (WDJO-AM 1160) and aren't afraid of music on AM. They've already cranked up the modulation to where it should be, so the station is much more listenable and I hear they do good business on their stream.

I'm sure WCIN's PD Dark Soldier will peruse this board and confirm it.?!?!

no point in keeping it if they continue on with BA

True that! We are now back in the underground, where creativity thrives. It needs to be temepered with reason, of course, but reduction to lowest common denominator is not part of the game plan, neither is fear of music or dumbing down. Time to rethink all those rules we've been blindly loyal to since back in the Regan era too.

One of the first things to do: Forget the pre-selected "singles." They are picked because they fit criteria that are irrelevant and outdated (relaxing mood music with a lite urban shuffle or cascade of string synths). Listen to the whole CD and find the most catchy, interesting, entertaining track then own that one, play it and build familiarity on it (and the person who plays it.) I still believe in focusing on a track or two at a time but the ones that are selected for BA are not the ones that need to be selected to build and entertain an audience. I see indie streams playing Beyonce and "Ordinary" . Why? When the space can be used for so many strong songs that need and deserve exposure...

Good news for you Bill....Smooth Jazz stays in the Queen City, and you can expect improvements.

The only way to really improve WCIN would be to completely move away from BA and play either older Jones airchecks (this alone would be a tremendous improvement but would never happen) or use Dial Global's unanchored SJ format a la WZTK-FM in Greensboro NC.

I still think Dial Global could eventually revamp their unanchored SJ service by just adding some VT's...that would improve the format 100% from that garbage being fed to these stations by BA. I am hoping they lurk in the background awaiting the opportunity. :-X
