Atlanta's Morning News Tryouts?

For the past couple of months, various WSB air talent have been doing 3-week stints as host of Atlanta’s Morning News. I suppose these are auditions for the job.

I’m not a professional programmer, just an observer, but I have some opinions about the 3 hosts who have been in the slot so far:

Chris Chandler is a premier newscaster and did a fine job. But he sounds so good in afternoon drive doing complete newscasts rather than speaking for several seconds and then handing it off to the 2 reporters.

Mark Arum is very talented and has shown his versatility doing serious talk, sports talk, (currently) entertainment talk and traffic reports. But I feel his present afternoon slot is a better platform for his talents. He has a lot of creativity, and his current show provides a stage for him to use that creativity. Also, if he moved to morning drive, WSB would need to find other content for 4-7PM, which would be taking a risk.

Judd Higginbotham is fine for filling in as he also has done in the past. And he fits in well as one of the 2 reporters on Atlanta’s Morning News. But I think there’s a small drop in quality when he is the host. Again, just my opinion.

Mark McKay hasn’t filled in during recent weeks but has in the past, and I thought he sounded quite good. Of course, he also sounds great doing morning traffic and would need to be replaced, but doing so wouldn’t be as disruptive as replacing a PM drive show.

Finally, I wonder whether Bill Caiaccio will get an opportunity to host the show. He is a solid reporter and has done some newscasts. How he would do on Atlanta’s Morning News is anyone’s guess.

Might Mark Arum take Atlanta's Morning News in a new, younger direction (but not too much younger) to appeal to a generation that grew up on "morning zoo" type morning shows?

Slade didn't try to imitate the Morning Merry-Go-Round. And that was a good thing--time had moved on.

Would whoever takes over in mornings maybe take it in a new direction? Not so drastic as to turn off longtime listeners, but enough of a change to bring in younger listeners?
