ATLANTIC CITY/CAPE MAY ARBITRON RATINGS RELEASED: FALL 2010

The scariest thing here is 99.3 being number one...no jocks, lazy imaging...#1. Yes the station is good musically...However it somewhat proves once again jocks aren't that important..With automation jocks are losing their jobs.. When a jockless station is number one what does that say..Plus equity bought 99.3 to strenghten Wayv..not hurt it...How long til Gary decides a mid day or afternoon jock isn't impolrtant on WAYV. I wonder how much remote money equity loses by 99.3 not having jocks...You would think at least one for appearances.

I know that, in the summer, I heard a lot of ZBZ at stands on the boardwalk.....stands where decades ago you heard WMID. Looks like TKU too a big hit. Shame. It was a good sounding station. Jackson T. is a legend and their morning show was very good, considering how little they paid the guys. Clearly, the loss of live jocks has hurt this station.

Just looked at WWAC numbers.......Ouch. Looks like the naysayers may have been right? Does a station like this need live jocks to make it go or do you feel the music is all wrong???

Once again, of all the stations in the JVC/Atlantic cluster, WOND-AM comes out on top, even on their modest little 1400 AM signal.

If they're not going to make the investment (in talent, imaging, promotion, etc.) to make their music stations as successful as possible, perhaps they should give what is clearly the most expensive station to run a proper push on the flamethrower 103.7 FM signal.

Granted, many of their local shows skew older. But these are still people who make up a high percentage of the population (esp. in Ocean County, which they would be able to reach on 103.7) and have a good amount of money to spend with their sponsors.

Add to that the popular Limbaugh, Levin, Savage, and Coast To Coast, and you have a station with the potential to score big in several demos.

Signal is the only thing holding WOND back from routinely hitting the Top 5 in AC/Cape May. So why is JVC/Atlantic so reluctant to go for it?

Maybe they just need to get DJ Ted Noah back in the AC market!

Plus, I don't doubt that day-parting would help significantly - Gold Heavy Rhythmic AC by Day and the current format by night...

I think when it comes to WWAC...It was done wrong..good idea for the market...executed bad...Lazy, repetitive(sometimes annoying) breakers...Bad imaging...Wrong jocks...Biron o Biron shouting like he's on the 1980s dial....Dance music...if you are going to play it play it...leave the pop songs alone...every song does not have to be 125 to 135 bpm...I mean Wild was blasting a Michael Buble remix in heavy rotation...Why?
Get hot imaging...younger sounding DJs...Daypart a bit...Why not infuse dance with the current pop..Lady Gaga , Ke$ha, Usher, Black Eyed Peas...these songs have energy...they don't need housier remixes(for radio play..in a club I understand). This station was doomed from the start...It wasn't a dance music failure...it was a PD failure.
Check out 94.5 The Vibe in Las Vegas...Dance is executed right there...thats the format that would have caught on in AC.

On another note I'm really surprised that WAYV is down.

That might be one way to go. Depends on what type of gold you mean though. If you're talking mostly 00's gold with the occasional 90's song thrown in (a la KTU), that would probably work. If you're talking lots of 70's and 80's (a la the old My 106.1), I don't think that music is really compatible with current dance anymore.

I think Wild started out too obscure too soon, and I agree about the tempo. There should have been more pure pop and hip-hop. Not everything had to be a remix.

Interestingly enough, Kiss started playing more dance as soon as Wild signed on. As much as I criticized them for just being copycats, their addition of dance paid off handsomely. Wild should have sounded more like Kiss at sign-on, but with higher energy and actual personalities.

Kidd Kraddick was another mistake. I don't understand why stations outside of Texas and the Southeast actually think their audience identifies with him. Still rooting for Wild, but I fear the worst if Atlantic gets bought out by anyone by JVC. Unfortunately, Atlantic being mired in bankruptcy severely limits what Wild can do to fix their problems- they can't spring for big money morning talent, for instance.

On another note I'm really surprised that WAYV is down.

I'm not that surprised. Rhythmic Pop is what rules the charts right now and Kiss is the place you'll find most of it, plus tighter rotations than AYV. AYV still has direct competition from Sojo as well.

That said, this is still a pretty weird book. The true ratings for AYV are probably a little higher and the true ratings for Kiss are probably a little lower.

Because then what do you do with 1400? 103.7 is surely profitable, hitting the right demos. You go from having two decently-rated stations to one well-rated one and one throwaway AM. WOND would be more likely to end up on a simulcast with 98.3 or 102.7.

Wild is still young, give it time. Don't forget the lost JSE fans who had their station "taken away" and sure is spreading the word to others to not tune in.

As for Kiss, um...well.....damn. Guess no matter what you do with 99.3, it will still be on the top.
