Atlantic Radio Pre American Radio Systems Merger

Does anyone know how many/which stations Atlantic Radio owed in total before merging to become ARS back in the day? I have always wondered, and it seems that I am only aware of their Boston Properties. Thank you in advance for your help!

I don't know that but I do know...

When WAAF was owned by American Radio Systems I thought they were a great station. This was bach when Opie and Anthony started on there, and I loved thier imaging... "The black sheep of the american radio systems family", "The red headed stepchild of the American Radio Systems Family" etc... Ahhhh... The good old days!

i was selling at 'hdh at the time of the merger. dodge had a total of five signals. wrko-wbmx-whdh(under agreement from mugar) in boston and am/fm combo in rochester,ny(wrmm or wrrm, can't recall now).

he brought the biggest pieces into the ars deal - boston was their biggest and only major market. plus, he owned the red sox rights.

things could've been way different in this town if richie and dodge made their deal work a year before ars deal. clear channel would've ended up with wrko-weei-wbmx-waaf-wjmn-wxks a few years later.

Thanks for the info! I knew that they must have owned other stations outside of the market, but just did not know where.

Unless Dodge and Richie had wound up buying Clear Channel! Do I have to remind you that most of the people that headed AM/FM came from Pyramid?
With Richie's radio management talent, knowlege and 'gut' and Steve Dodge's financial connections, who knows how far that combination would have gone? The sum of those parts was far more then their individual ones!
