Attention WSQR Sycamore

Your automation system is down completely.

Since the top of the 4:00 PM hour (10-27-07), none of the local spots have played at all (including the ID at the top of the hour.) In fact, during the last hour, a block of commercials played on top of the music.

Since 4:00, it sounds like the station is simply relaying a raw feed of ABC's Timeless Classics network. A little while ago, they just came back from about two or three minutes of dead air.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy listening to the music they play (off the satellite network, of course), but this station needs to get their act together on the local side. Even during the week, they often come out of a local program and rejoin the network in the middle of a song. Your average radio listener probably won't even pick up on the fact that their music programming is actually coming from a satellite network, and simply think they're listening to a very poorly run station.

I have also noticed this from time to time on WSQR. I like the station I listen during the day from Dupage county I do not understand why if you own a station especially a locally owned you cant even listen to make sure there is no dead air that
is the quickest way to lose a listener! I have one more question, how far does the 1watt signal reach at night can you pick
it up more a mile or two from the tower or can you actually get a decent range from it? Once they power down all i get is the
station from New York. I also wish WRTO AM1200 would shut off there iboc so could pick them up way farther into Chicago.

Pretty amazing coming from a company who is always trying to improve their AM radio frequencies. They somehow landed a flame thrower signal on 1180 during the day, even though you still can not hear them at night. Yet they do everything on the cheap from their Plano Illinois studios. They automate or simulcast most of the day between WSPY FM and AM and Sycamore. What a shame. They need to drop that timeless favorites and put a format like True Oldies on it.

It is quite sad what WSQR has become, just a "relay" signal for the stations in Plano.

I find it hard to imagine that in a growing area like Sycamore/DeKalb, you can't find anyone who wants to work at a local station learning the business. No on air talent, no sales people, nothing?

You'd think with NIU right in their back yard WSQR would have a never ending supply of students/bodies willing to learn radio, and maybe even earn that elusive first job.

What a shame and truly a waste of a local frequency.

Perhaps it might be more effective to give them a friendly phone call as opposed to posting here....
