Will Discovery still own it?
The Hub is 50% owned by Discovery Communications, 50% by Hasbro; Hasbro is also responsible for programming the channel. As a child of the `80s, I can`t wait for The Hub to launch. And speaking of October cable channel launches, I sincerely hope DIRECTV adds FEARNet HD to its channel lineup when it launches as a linear channel on Halloween.

Just looked at the schedule: Family Ties kicks things off from 8-9 ET, followed by one episode apiece of Wonder Years and Doogie Howser. Happy Days airs for a full hour starting at 10 pm, followed by one episode each of Laere & Shirley and Batman. The same episodes then air overnight and in the sae order from 2-6 AM Eastern. Especially looking forward to seeing the Wonder Years again, as there has never been a DVD release due to music licensing issues.

Fraggle Rock, GI Joe and the Transformers will all air as well. It looks as though these are original versions from the '80s.

Hasbro is responsible for programming it? Sounds like they will be trying to sell their toys most of the day. ::)

As for the nightly classic TV portion of the schedule... they don't even seem to be featuring it on their website. It almost sounds like that programming may be a placeholder until they come up with some original (crappy) shows for primetime. Those of you who are classic TV lovers might not want to get your hopes too high just yet.

Give it 6-12 months and the retro format will be gone, you can only milk it for so long before it needs an overhaul/ad dollars dry up

Sounds like they ran into the same problems that Planet Green ran into a few months back, and I'm sure Oprah's channel will in January; either they didn't have enough programming to launch or some station in Uzbekistan is holding onto the rights to "Pound Puppies" until they run out. :D

I think that's happening until the new original stuff can get into primetime is that they bought out the remainder of the rights for the year to Laverne and Shirley, Family Ties and Happy Days from FamilyNet/AFN (which carried it before new ownership came into place) and are putting it there until they can fill out the time.

I find it rather odd though. You'd think they'd just fill primetime with whatever will be programmed during the day and keep the current DK programming on during those low-profile hours.

They're trying to build an audience where one doesn't exist. They are trying to turn the Discovery Kids 50 viewers into 500. I'm sure more will be watching WONDER YEARS than Dogs In Space.

I agree, retro TV shows never seem to last on any network. I don't think they pull in any ratings. WGN America is doing away with their Outta Sight Retro Nights on Sunday nights.

They need to get rid of RETRO NIGHT. It started off fine (about a year ago) but has since just turned into a regular TV night. Maybe they're copying the Retro TV network formula.

In a little over a year you'll be saying "I'm surprised it's still around" I guess...

The Hub is planning some original programming, including game shows based on its popular board games.

Oh boy! I can't wait to see a TV Game Show based on "The Game of Life!"

End of Sarcasm.

Surprisingly, it might actually be good! I'd much rather see a modern day Mad Dash though.
Now THAT was a great human board game/game show.

They probably do alright in the ratings, the problem is, they don't bring in the right demo's. Advertisers don't want 40-80 year olds re-living their youth, they want 18-54 year olds who are still out living and spending the most money.

1. This explains why "Discovery Kids" has already disappeared as an option in the Comcast On-Demand kids section (much to my son's dismay, since he loved to watch "Bigfoot Presents: Meteor and the Mighty Monster Trucks."

2. Here in Houston, Channel 57 just flipped from Spanish (VasalloVision) to an independent English language station with a retro focus, now called the KUBE, since KUBE are the new calls. KUBE is running Happy Days and Laverne and Shirley now, so this will duplicate the offerings on this new network, at least in Houston.

RTV has added some saturday morning cartoons. Such as the Archies and Fat Albert. they are also running the old B/W Lassie.

"This" network has also added some cartoons like Heathcliff and Inspector Gadget. they've also adde Pink Panther. Which has been used in the past to fill in extra time when a movie runs short.

I tell you, these HUB folk are running a relentless ad campaign. Not only are there many banner ads on media websites, but I can't seem to get away from print ads plastered all over New York City.

I even saw a HUB ad during primetime on WCBS last night.
