Translators are secondary services ... anyone could apply for a full educational
station on the frequency and knock them off. No one has, and this one has been
on the air for something like 20 years. It can only be heard right around Atlantic City,
the main station is in Camden. Obviously, they don't drive down every day and listen
to it. Unless a listener calls (and she may have died by now) they don't know when
it has problems. It's not a big deal. Band conditions wreak havoc with reception
close to the shore, and WKDN (which I monitor for EAS) takes a hit from Ocean City
Maryland quite often, and I'm sure that WPUR on 107.3 a mile from their 106.9
receiver doesn't help. We don't know for sure that it was off "all week" or just the
couple of times Jason tuned in.
