Attn: Engineers!

Maybe someone can help me.... What brand is WFMF's main processor? I'm interested because it's a unique sound that I like. As far as loudness and punchiness, it's unbelieveable how they knock out anyone else on the dial in Baton Rouge! And they also have something that broadens or expans the stereo "soundstage." I did some research, and I'm thinking they may have the Orban 222A. They have this "surround sound effect" on the air... very noticeable in headphones or in the car. It brings out background instruments and vocals! If someone has any idea what they may have, lem'me know, please.

Thanks,

Sawtooth McMullen

The whole Baton Rouge CC Cluster has the same processing. 96.1 The River has the most seperation / enhancementd and they keep the needles pegged to the right. I remember someone telling me that the use a "odd set of boxes" for their airchain.

Matter of fact... you are right. I failed to mention the other two stations with the same, familiar processing. CC Baton Rouge has the same processing for 96.1 The River, 101.5 WYNK, and 102.5 WFMF. It was like that BEFORE CC had it... I think when Guarrantee owned them

96.1 The River had the most separation, but in the past year or two, they toned it down. WFMF and WYNK are about the same, but WFMF is gotta be wide open!

I'm still interested it just what they have that makes the signature sounds, but thanks joshleblanc!

You're right, sorry. Guaranty never owned them... I wanna say it was... maybe Gulf Star Communications. Anywho, my point to that subject is CC was not the ones who established the processing airchain as it is today. As far as I can remember, they started this sound one day in back in Fall of '97.

I know AM/FM owned them right before being absorbed by Clear Channel around 2000..I can't remmember who flipped the calls to WLSS for a while but I think it was gulf south as someone said. I'm gonna have to research it better to find out

RFLA

in 1995, Gulfstar Communications purchased WFMF, WJBO, WYNK-FM, and WYNK-AM..Gulfstar then became AM/FM, which then became Clear Channel Communications, same guys since 95, just different names...as for questions about the engineering side, call 231-1860 and ask for Richard Petty, i think he still is Chief over all CC stuff in BR..

Not totally correct....Gulfstar was one of the companies started by Steve Hicks...brother of Tom Hicks of AM/FM (which came from Evergreen and SFX)
Gulfstar was made of out of properties that Steve owned after his dad (John Hicks) passed on...KLVI in Beaumont being one of the main stations of that group...along with WTAW in Aggieland. The other "stars" came along and eventually were known as CAPSTAR (Tom was a minor partner in CapStar but a major partner in AM/FM).....then they merged the two together....and then CC and AM/FM agreed to merge...not the same company all the way through....but likely the same people there.
I was an original stockholder in Capstar and AM/FM existed separately...
CC was around since the 1970s. I worked at otheir first outside of S/A holdings in the late 70s.
