Attn Russ Haney - in Regards To Y-100.7 Miami

I read what you wrote over on Tranceaddict in regards to Y-100 airing some new Dance shows. you're absolutely right! People shoud appreciate the fact that this CHR/Pop station is bringing back some EDM radio shows to the South Florida airwaves (which is how this relates to THIS board). A new house/trance show on Sunday nights, AND a a live broadcast Friday nights from club Spirits. Maybe if this works out Y-100 will become a very Dance friendly CHR like it was in the mid to late 90s (even early 2000). I'm sure Tanim, Robert Moore and others know what I'm talking about ;)

I love the TA's to death, but sometimes those guys just can't look at the bigger picture.

PS, Ferry Corsten is spinning in Nashville next month :)

I actually cant stand them to be honest with you.. they are all a bunch of closed minded dumbasses (and feel free to let them all know i said that). First, from what I have heard, this Marky G guy is a circuit dj (the source from where I have heard this from could be wrong)... and I have a feeling, since Sunday night is now a big party night in Miami (Murk at Mansion and Weekly Big Names at Suite).. he is going to have to play some deeper stuff than what Party did. At that time slot, I have a feeling he will because the daytime top 40 crowd will be in bed at those hours.

Hell.. all of those TA's have turned on PvD and Tiesto now because they get so much press.... You should read the posts about the PvD show at Spirits a few weeks ago.. would make you puke.

I really hope this proves them wrong.. those people compalin that House music sucks and thats all Miami is (which is A-OK with me), but once something like this gets announced, they flame it. They would rather keep their scene underground then have it mainstream.. whatever.

I honestly hope that its not the Promo Only mainstream club series mixed into a 3 hour set.. I hope he digs a little deeper than that...but if it is only PO stuff... then it's better than nothing.... it's a start... and who knows, if it does well.. it could be the opening to getting at least some dance music back in the clubbing capital of America.

HAHAH.. on a side note.. I was wondering why you were so excited that Corsten was in Nashville (out of all places).. then it struck me that you moved there a while back.. I saw him at Space a few months ago.... solid set. He will rock the place! Hope everything is going well man!

Im with you Russ, and its the same thing over at the Myspace Dance forums. I too am sick of all those nuts that get mad if a song goes mainstream, they get mad anytime their music is exposed to the masses, they got mad at Tiesto, because of playing at the oplympics, and getting mainstream acceptence. Those people are just ridiculous, and most wouldnt know what GOOD EDM music is anyway. I never got along with those trance addicts either, you mention something about a song you like getting played on the radio, or metion an FM station that has a good mixshow, and they immediately try to bash me,,, But they fail at Personal attacks toward me,,, Im M.W.C and I burned em up. And I even got Banned from the Myspace forums, because I got rather Nasty with Frankie Bones, who also got (VERY) nasty with me.

The thing that makes me laugh at those people... They once DIED & WORSHIPED Motorcycle: As the Rush...when it was first released.... and the second that song made it big.. It's now cheesy and sucks.... that's just one example.... When "Loves Comes Again" was an "OMFG!!! THIS SONG POWNS" type song.... now it's cheese because Tiesto is a "sell out"... the same with van buuren... the same with pvd "the other side" - when it first came out, they were ate up by it... now it's cheese and pvd is a sell out... the same with any dj/producer that makes it big or has an ounce of success.... whatever.. they all have mental issues... and need to get away from their ipod's for 5 minutes.... and think outside the box.

What MySpace forum was this?
Sounds like a fun read.

Here is a perfect example:

In response to Y100 launching a few new dance shows:

Trance Addict Member response:
we flame it cuz we know what they're going to play. its gonna be the same old cheesey (BLEEP) every hour that gives our scene a bad name. hey if you wanna support that go right ahead, i on the other hand will gladly bash it. i'd rather have our scene stay somewhat underground than get bad publicity.

Trance Addict Member response:
we've had this happen HOW many times? First Power 96 back in the day -CHEESE (except late nite lab which was on like a 2AM on Saturdays & that didn't last) then Party 93.1 & WTF happened to them? gee.

Y100 doesn't know what it likes to effing play...they go from pop crap to hip hop to alternative emo punk.

so what makes you think they'd play "TRANCE" or REAL trance for that matter?

I'm sorry but DJ Sammy - Heaven isn't trance.

get a clue.

Actually the Late Night Laboratory became pretty legendary and lasted about 3-4 years if I'm not mistaken. The shows resident DJ George Alvarado then went on to host a show on Party 93.1. I don't recall the Trance fans who frequented the old Space, or the Shadow Lounge, of dissing that show.
And what do they mean how many times this has happened? Weren't there a lot of good weekend shows on Party 93.1 after that? shows Tranceaddicts loved? How do you think they all "discovered" Markus Schulz? Edgar V. had a show there too, so did Paul Oakenfold.
Back to Power 96 for a minute, in the mid to late 90s, as well as early 2000s, the station did play some credible Dance music. Examples: The Crystal Method, Planet Soul, Faithless, Kay Cee (remember "Escape"?), Nalin & Cane, etc.

When does Y-100 play Alternative Punk EMO? Do these young kids even know what real punk music is? It sure ain't Yellowcard and Avril Lavigne. Y-100 is a hit music station and as such they play pure Pop (Shakira, Gwen Stefani, Britney), it plays crossover Rock (Maroon 5, All American Rejects), Crossover R&B (Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey) and crossover Hip Hop (50 Cent, Nelly). Last time I checked the same could be said when listening to most of the other CHR/Pop stations in America:
http://www.radio-info.com/mods/board?Post=621338&Board=chr

There are numerous Dance stations throughout the world, and most of them have to play mainly the more radio/friendly or whats known as Mainstream Dance music. The reason is obvious - to survive and to pay the rent you need decent ratings, and decent demographics. ID&T Radio in Holland for example used to mainly focus on quality Dance music when it was only available on Cable radio. Once it got a hold of a bunch of expensive FM frequencies, and had disappointing ratings, the station adjusted itself musically and became known as Slam FM.
Most Dance radio stations have a daytime playlist that includes Vocal House, crossover Trance, Euro, Dance/Pop, or radio-friendly Electronica (Dirty Vegas, Fatboy Slim, etc.). Many will also play some Hip Hop or Pop/Rock. The list of actual FM Dance stations that also webcast online can be found at:

Hahaha. Well, just b/c the intro is uber-cheesy doesn't mean it'll be all bad. My guess is the first hour will be in the same vein as what a typical hour of Party 93.1 Miami would sound like if it was still around. The second and third hours are where you're likely to see a good mix of both Dance/Pop and Club/Underground smashes. It sounds like a pretty decent idea for a CHR/Pop station if you ask me.

I might have to tune into the broadcast from Spirits (via Y-100's webcast) on a Friday night to see what they'll be playing from there.

http://www.markiac.addr.com/mg2.jpg <<<---- come on... no wonder this scene gets a bad rap. That's the dj of this new dance show. How is that supposed to get anyone that's into dance music excited?

If the music is on par.. then i can handle the cheesy programs, and god awful Mako's/Zuma Beach Club/Wet T-Shirt image... but isnt dance music supposed to be cutting edge? I actually see the point in what TA's are saying.. and they called it out.... but we'll see tomorrow night.

Are you kidding me...LOL... he looks like Henry Winkler,, and about as old...

Read the DJ info

If you read "DJ Info" they tell you what type of msic willbe on. You won't like it. It is for the Top 40 crowd only.

I like ANY kind of Dance on the radio... whether its for the top 40 crowd.. trance crowd.. or house crowd... i guess i was hoping they would look at what their friends over in Tampa (FLZ) are doing on Sat nights. FLZ plays everything. its not chesy.. they play whts hot in Tampa.. tp 40 remixes... some trance... breaks... thats cutting edge.
