As a former Austin radio person, yes, it is about who you know. I was lucky to get in over 4 years ago. I used to listen to the former PD at KASE(he worked afternoons at KBFM in McAllen when I was a kid), and when I sent him my aircheck, I put a note on there that said, "I remember hearing you as a kid. Now take some time and listen to me." I was working in Austin within the week.

I've heard the term, "Austin is the biggest smallest market in the country" used several times. I have to agree. That's one of the reasons that I'm no longer in radio.

You can always get a show at KOOP with the ultra leftist!

KOOP ablaze

He can get a show at KOOP after the smoke settles and I
don't mean the political upheavals that the station is
known for but rather the smoke from the fire that started
in the adjacent building next to their studios
thursday night (Jan. 5th). Get the full story here:

There are several reports that say the damage to KOOP radio
is being exaggerated and that the KOOP studios were not
severely damaged.
