Audacy and Beasley Trade Stations

Hopefully Beasley keeps Alt107.5 or even brings back X107.5. It’s making money
How do you know it is making money?

Beasley filed today, on behalf of Audacy, to change the primary station of K268CS (101.5 FM) from KDWN to KMXB HD-3.

It's unclear the reasoning behind this change, but it could mean:

- Nothing at all (some broadcasts prefer to "feed" translators from HD channels even when they are a simulcast of an AM)

- The simulcast of KDWN on 101.5 is coming to an end and new programming on the FM translator is en route

- The transaction for the KXST transmitter site that KDWN also uses is closing soon forcing 1140 and 720 to go off the air in the near future (KDWN programming continues on 101.5/94.1 HD-3)

No STA or modification applications to move KXST or KDWN have been filed as of this post. Even with AM's challenges it seems very unlikely they Audacy would turn in those two licenses or let them expire when they already have another AM site they can combine at. Also, seems unlikely Audacy would not have BetQL OTA in Las Vegas.... but who knows...

Another thing I never fully understood:

Univison Stations ( KisF / krGt ) and
entravision ( knnr?/ kqrt?) have the same parent company _ and both station
focus on Spanish programming.

Any thoughts ....

Entravision was formed over 30 years ago by a former GM of KMEX (TV) in LA and an investor. It was set up with the backing of Univision to own TV stations in markets smaller than the top 7 that Univision was limited to at the time.

Later, Entravision added radio to support and promote their Univision TV affiliates.

Today, TelevisaUnivision owns 10% of Entravision. TelevisiaUnivision is not the "parent" of Entravision. Univision does not even have a seat on Entravision's board.

The two companies do not share operations in any way, and are competitive against each other in several radio markets, like Phoenix and Las Vegas where they have direct same-format competitors.

Of course, Univision is getting out of Las Vegas entirely with its recently approved sale, mostly because Las Vegas has turned into a terrible and unprofitable radio market with 91 radio stations, including the translators. In 2016 the market had billings of $69 million, and now it is less than $52 million.

Looks like Beasley just handed the struggling KOMP 92.3 an ENORMOUS Christmas present!

What a HORRIBLE move for 107.5. Twelve hours of prerecorded programming from Michigan daily??? Free Beer & Hot Wings is a sanitized sounding morning show from Grand Rapids, MI (market #68 or #69) that sometimes has trouble generating ratings on stations within driving distance from its home base. I'm sure a tape delayed version will fare great in the desert southwest!

I'm not so sure airing Dave & Chuck on tape delay in afternoons is such a wise move, either, but they're at least a better fit for the brand. That would be a better show to air in the evening.
