Audacy Layoffs

I know this is crazy wishful thinking, but Johnny Dare or some of his friends can get together and just buy The Rock. Or maybe there's another underperforming local station they can flip to their musical style when the non-compete's over...

Very recently in Maine, some *local* folks bought a rock station that was about to go under and saved it. Stephen King radio station gets 11th-hour reprieve
But that being said this isn't Maine.
That's much easier to do in a microscopic market like Bangor, ME than a large one. The price tag for the station is MUCH lower and you don't have 6 figure salaries to fulfill. Operating at stand alone is an uphill battle anywhere but personally, I'd much rather try it in a small marker.

Why on earth did they get rid of Johnny Dare? What will become of 98.9?
Lazlo has no business being on that station. Audacy dumped the wrong show.

They should've retained Dare and cancel Church of Lazlo instead, and maybe interchange a supporting cast member or two.

KQRC's glory days are in the rear view mirror, sadly. I'm afraid it will be nothing more than a complementary piece to 96.5 The Fan now.

Look at what happened to KRXQ in Sacramento after it lost its heritage morning show. Heck, KSJO in San Jose after losing Lamont & Tonelli 25 years ago comes to mind, as does KEGL after losing Russ Martin (very popular afternoon host).

It's all indicative of the collapse of the rock format nationally. The only thing that kept the stations alive was heritage talent...until that talent left. But the music has no attraction anymore.

Which music? Some Classic Rock stations still seem to attract an audience that wants the same Zeppelin and Pink Floyd tracks. Active Rock or whatever they called it is pretty much dead...

Church of Lazlo has at least three people (I'm not sure if the third person is a producer or not) and Dare's morning show had 5-6. I hadn't listened since Murphy Wells left, and that was years ago. Johnny did a great interview years ago with Jay Thomas, not sure if it's online but I heard it live.

In the end, KQRC is moving Lazlo to mornings. It looks like a woman from one of Audacy's New Orleans stations will track afternoon drive.

Some reporting on the subject here

Rating actually went up for 98.9 in March.

I noticed that, too. Keep in mind, though, that Dare was let go in March. So, it's possible that Johnny Dare's last hurrah and the shows he did dedicated to his dismissal juiced KQRC's numbers.

It'll take a few months to see where the station actually settles now that Dare is out.
