Audacy Nearing Bankruptcy

Spanish language religion is likely the next (and final) format for 650 under a new owner.

I presume any local spots on 650 are just bonuses for anyone advertising on 610, but I do wonder if the operation of 650 is worth it for Audacy, or just an annoying distraction and cost.
KIKK is a computer in a closet. How much of a distraction or substantial cost can it really be for Audacy?

You should have pursued a broker's career, Mediafrog. You want to sell off everyone's facilities for them. 😅

Don’t forget he also wants KROI to be sold 😂.

Probably not all that much in the greater scheme of things. However if you are Audacy and pinching pennies, is it worth keeping the lousiest station in your entire AM portfolio? I would guess some religious outfit would snap it up. Probably not suitable for any sort of Asian format; transmitter on the opposite end of the metro from most of that target audience.

Not everyone’s facilities; just poorly performing stations that could thrive under fresh ownership with new ideas.

Because it has the potential to do much better as current ownership is unwilling to try anything outside of their usual wheelhouse. The new(ish) signal has also improved market coverage. No, it is not a Missouri City stick, but the difference is quite noticeable where I am in NW Harris County.
I just want Boom 92.1 back
Boom had better numbers than what Praise the Infomercials is currently pulling. Dumping Boom for Radio Now was a kneejerk reaction to the demise of Hot 95.7, though the Boom numbers had been falling from its impressive debut.

Perhaps someone has some insight into whether throwback Hip-Hop can still pull attractive demos?

I just want News 92 FM back…
I miss it too, but not happening. Horrifically expensive format to operate.
sometimes we don’t get what we want. In Houston radio, that’s most of the time.
Unfortunately Houston has the worst radio choices of the top four markets in Texas. I would trade away the Houston FM dial for that in DFW, San Antonio, or Austin in a heartbeat.

You guys should just convince an LPFM to flip or something. LOL and what about 89.7? I remember they canceled their rock format and were gonna sell it, but that was a long time ago and last I tuned into the stream it was just random tunes.

Personally I think San Antonio is the worst.

Just a lot of stations I’m not interested in. I end up only listening to KONO and KVBH. Sometimes KRTU. The other 3 cities have a lot more stations I like. Also the HD subchannels are mostly just repeats of other full powered HD1s that have the same coverage area.

Houston may not have the best or the most choices of the top Texas markets, but such is life in a market with an irrational frequency plan with only 12 full market commercial FM signals (though I suppose the KGLK and KHPT simulcast makes 13 full market commercial FM stations).

I would definitely take San Antonio's dial over Houston's just for KONO-FM alone. If we had a station like that in Houston, I would honestly be very satisfied with the Houston dial, as that station would be all I need to be happy given my tastes.

I'll gladly speak for my Dallasite friends when I tell you it's a hard pass from the Metroplex. 😂

The translator conundrum you all have just stood by and allowed to transpire, down there in H-Town, is the envy of no one else under the Lone Star.

Translators elsewhere in the state aren't making As when it comes to following rules either.

I'm sure many complaints were probably filed by one or more people on this board. But the FCC doesn't do anything...

Are any of you in the actual radio business... just wondering. Surely a reason why companies like mine just decide to stay in their own lane and not worry about translators.
Not me 🙃. Also are you saying if there was a translator interfering with your station because they aren't following the rules you would just let it happen??

I am, and your statement speaks volumes to me, sir.

@HTX I worded that poorly, and I surely don't want you, or anyone else, doing anything of the sort. The thing is, there are groups that have tried to operate in the same fashion over in the Metroplex. In each instance, it has been thwarted. I'd have to do some digging, but there's a translator near Royse City, that used to nearly blanket Dallas County. When all was said and done, the offender nearly lost the entire license, and the group was significantly lightened of some cash. It can be stopped, it just takes the initiative to do so.
