Audacy Philadelphia

You can't diplex it on the closest DA, the Salem 560/990 site just down the road, because 990 and 1060 are too close in frequency.

Is it because theyre so high powered?

There are two stations in IL sharing the same tower, 70khz apart

Two stations in FL are only 80khz apart.. im unclear if they shared the same share and used different towers or were diplexed on any towers.

It's not the separation in kHz that matters so much as the percentage of wavelength that's between the diplexed stations. You can make 560 and 610 work (barely) much better than, say, 1410 and 1460.

I suppose there might be a way to squeeze 990 and 1060 on to the same towers, but it would involve a lot of compromises with bandwidth and probably wouldn't work very well for all the costs that would be involved.

If you have profitable markets why would you give that up
Anything is possible. Keep in mind we now have a full FCC board, so whatever additional moves audacy wanted to make but couldn't because of the 2-2 deadlock can make those moves now with any of their stations. the FCC board is going to be very busy between now and the end of the year.

Where’d the crystal ball come from? When you need to raise cash, and there’s a willing buyer, lots of things can happen. Is it likely in the near term? Probably not, though EMF might have a surprise or two in them. As to “already,” that depends on the rather consequential matter of there being a buyer.

Right now, I have no intention to sell my home. But if someone came along with enough cash in their dump truck…hey, something might suddenly be up for discussion,
agreed.

Audacy is not selling any of its stations anywhere. WBEB and WOGL make a lot of money for Audacy. If they were going to sell stations they would have already had done it already
It's never too late to sell. Audacy may have waited until the FCC has the full 5 member board in place before making anymore moves

If WPHT begins losing money it might make more sense to move KYW’s programming to the stronger 1210 signal, especially now they’ve removed 1060 from most station marketing

1210 is 150 kHz farther up the dial and so it covers less, watt for watt. And while KYW is directional, 1210 has never had as good a signal where it matters.

Routine sales are not done by the Commissioners. That is what the Broadcast Bureau is for.

Got it. I still think audacy will make some decisions with it's stations across the USA while the FCC has all 5 members now. It may go back to a 2-2 deadlock next year if one of the members is not reappointed and confirmed by the Senate by the end of this year , that person would have to step down. So whatever moves audacy want to make they better start doing it soon , they got til the end of the year to do it and being next year an election year it will be hard to confirm another fcc member. And it may be hard for radio stations to make deals

I think a religious broadcaster may get imho, the audacy Philadelphia am station I won't mention . kyw will stay as is, on 1060 am but they must leave 103.9 now. The other station has just too many things going against them. Despite the money making . Low ratings the programming and talent and older dying audiences getting 1 shares , getting 80,000 listeners the last 2 to 3 books at one point for a am station is stunning .a 50kw am shouldn't be banished to last place

Why not? Listeners that matter to advertisers have clearly stated that they do not seek out programming on AM stations. Whatever sort of programming that you think belongs there isn‘t going to change that.

"Where it matters" being the Main Line and elsewhere in the western burbs, right?
"Where is matters" is Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Philadelphia, Montgomery counties in PA, Burlington, Camden and Gloucester in New Jersey. All are 100% part of the Philadelphia Metro Survey Area. Nielsen does not measure towns and cities... it measures counties.

Only 27% of the Philadelphia MSA lives in Philadelphia County. Only Delaware and Chester counties are to the west. All the rest are to the north, east and south.

The majority of Audacy and IHearts revenue comes from its stations. And the large markets is where the money is. Selling stations will hurt the company long term
And in many cases a lower rated serves a purpose in cluster strategy. It may take a bit off of a competitor's leading station, or it may add enough in popular agency target demos to allow a package of stations under the same owner to be a "must buy".
