Audacy should buy KFRH from Ed Stolz

Not quite given that Audacy (back when they were known as Entercom) had a dispute with Ed Stolz over a Sacramento area station. Ed Stolz has a history over getting into disputes in the San Francisco area over Music Royalties disputes and in Sacramento over a license dispute.

Surely you jest. Wasn't the Sacremento license turned in so they could complete their merger without Stolz's legal issues and license challenges? With all of their issues now, Audacy looks to be trading or selling.

Let Ed forfeit the license and then apply for its replacement in a few years. That’d be karmic retribution.

Given Ed’s penchant for suing companies that buy his properties…I doubt any publicly traded company (especially one that is barely treading water) is that daft.

The O.P. brings up a good point though…who will buy a standalone AM/FM combo in a large market? Unless your money is on a religious outfit buying it at a discount (because of the whole suing thing mentioned above), or some person wanting to play radio for a low price, I don’t know who could or would buy the properties for a pre-existing cluster.

You’re definitely not going to buy it for the format or physical plant/property value, that’s for sure!

The Sacramento license was turned in to insure renewal of the other licenses that Entercom had up for renewal. That particular station had done a contest that ended up with the death of a participant in a contest where people were supposed to go for a long period of time without urinating:

"On January 12, 2007, KDND's morning show, the Morning Rave, held an on-air contest entitled Hold Your Wee for a Wii, in which contestants were asked to drink as much water as they could without urinating."

By turning in the license, they accepted responsibility and cleared the way for the other renewals.

At least this would show there is a viable path forward and the stations are on the air. I'm sure the hope is to spark interest from someone other than VCY, who will surely offer less than they did last time.
