Audie Cornish leaves NPR's All Things Considered

Announced today that she will be joining CNN for their new CNN+ service

My take is there is no place for growth at NPR. That's why several folks are leaving.

Audie had the top job, hosting ATC. She can either do it forever, or leave to do something else.

Audie Cornish and Mary Louise Kelley were the two most talented current NPR hosts.

Period.

The rest - Inskeep, Ari Shapiro, and particularly some of the newer hires include Noel King weren't even in the same ballpark.

Here's David Folkenflick covering the departures for NPR, from inside NPR. It is the best piece written on this.
NPR hosts' departures fuel questions over race. The full story is complex. : NPR

Good story. He's right. NPR doesn't pay as well as the big TV news companies. There's a view that NPR should keep its salaries in lines with those of its stations rather than big commercial operations. I think some of the former NPR talent will see that diversity isn't treated with the same care at the big commercial outlets. It wasn't that long ago that you've had major sex scandals at NBC News, CBS News, and Fox News. So there's a choice these people are making between payscale and workplace culture.
