Audio: 107.1 FM - Long Branch, NJ - 80's

Here are portions of three airchecks of the frequency from 1981, when they were going by the call letters WWUU, and 1982 and 1987, under the calls WMJY. Plenty of Paul McCartney on this station. They were using the tagline "Rock Hits Home" by the time 1987 rolled around.

Listen and enjoy:

(Check out the liner at 6:05... Wonder if he also got the idea for NJ 101.5's current slogan, too? ;D )

As the YouTube poster points out, the bit at 6:41 is *embarrassing*. At my old station we never would have resorted to such subterfuge (partly because we actually got pretty good service from the record companies, but mostly because I'm pretty sure we didn't have a stereo deck in the FM studio to play back such a thing...)

While the jock you hear, Tom Lipke, may not be terrific, the "bit" is not embarrassing. That's how the song actually ends. "Radio Waves" was on Roger Waters' album "Radio KAOS," which featured legendary DJ Jim Ladd throughout the album, linking the songs and story together.

Shows you how much I was paying attention to Roger Waters when that record came out...I never listened through to the end! Probably better to have let the chatter play for a while but, on the other hand, it was a new record he may not have previewed (I'm as guilty of that as anyone...)
