Audio delay on JB&B?

I noticed something weird while flipping through stations this morning: on 106.1 The Rooster I caught the end of one segment of John Boy & Billy; then, a few minutes later, I heard the same segment on 100.3 The Buzzard (the Triad's JB&B affiliate). Is there some sort of audio delay between the two stations? Too bad the Triad doesn't have a "Wake Up With Whoopi" affiliate; it would have been interesting to test this theory between it and 93.9 Kiss FM (hint to CC-G: mirror WMKS after WKSL...)

I believe the JB&B feed is automated, such to allow the affiliate to program its own songs.

Pay close attention to the liner at the end of a JB&B "segment" and right before a song. That just screams Otto Mation.

From The Big Show's website: http://www.thebigshow.com/links_qa/misc_questions.html

Q: I have a question about your radio broadcast. I live in Richmond Virginia and drive to Durham North Carolina on a regular basis. When making this trip I have noticed that the station in Durham is on a several minute delay, and I was wondering why that is. It's very strange to hear a contest or a skit, and then to switch stations to hear it all over again.
A: We provide the show to affiliates in three flavors, Rock, Country and Oldies (60's & 70's)...The timing issue allows us to accomodate the multiple musical formats our affiliates have demanded... The time shift is designed to float between 1 second and up to 3 minutes, we strive to keep the delay on the minimum side of that window, but occassionally it floats a little long...

I've noticed that on 100.3 The Buzzard, they're 20 seconds behind 96.3 WROV in Roanoke. And they both play the same music! Which brings me to this question:
When they have a call-in contest, does the feed that goes out first get a better chance of callers getting through?

The REALITY is there is NO chance to win or call in to the "Big Show"

They are in studio one or two days a week....they do most of the contests in pre prod.

John Boy is in Wrightsville Beach before Thursday's show is on the air....and maybe back by monday

   :dismay:

I can't believe that sharp operators like JB&B would let us down like this (I mean again)!

And now you know... THE REST of the story! ;D

Contesting on most syndicated shows is canned. Doesn't mean it doesn't happen fairly, it's just time delayed. Consider syndicated programming like Rick Dees, Mike Harvey Supergold, etc. All have various forms of Contesting, yet they're on CD. Little of what goes on in larger shows is truly live any more.

But the question goes to possibility of winning! In fact, the question is does ANYONE ever win the contests on these shows?

I can see it being equal if everyone has to mail something in and the contest takes weeks, maybe that's still a "contest" but how is it a "contest" if one station's listeners are 5 minutes ahead of another station's listeners?
