AUDIO: Fox & Annie’s First Morning Show on WCBS-FM & Rant

If you have missed their new morning show on WCBS-FM, here it is.

This is John Foxx and Annie Leamy’s first morning as heard on WCBS-FM from Monday morning.

Since my last thread on “I’m officially done with WCBS-FM”, I decided to go back and listen to WCBS-FM one more time and listen to their morning show. And guess what? IT SUCKS!!!!

I’m not a huge fan of this new morning show that replaced my all-time favorite, Scott Shannon, because it’s really bad. No guests, no funny stories, nothing! This new morning show is so boring!!!!

To give you a brief story, John Foxx as you probably know started in radio at WPLJ back in the 2000’s when he was a program director until the station pulled the plug in 2019. After he left WPLJ, he worked at a country station which was WNSH for a while and then went to Houston, TX at KILT-FM’s “The Bull” when he was a brand manager. After a brief period as a country station, he went back to New York where he now does mornings at WCBS-FM and he is now the new brand manager.

Now we’re come to Annie Leamy. She started in the Hudson Valley in the 2000’s. She first started at WPKF’s “Kiss-FM” in 2006 with CJ a part of “CJ’s Playhouse”, she later went to WSPK’s “K104” when she was with the Woodman. After that, she went to New York at WPLJ for a stint in middays, and then went back in the Hudson Valley in 2020 where she did mornings on WRNQ’s “Q92” where she took over for Joe Daily. After three years at “Q92”, she left the station last month where she went back to New York to join with John Foxx with their new morning show together at WCBS-FM.

Back on Monday morning, I recorded the first show in its entirety. I listened to the show since day one, and after I finished, I turned it off and I will never listened to their new morning show on WCBS-FM ever again. It’s not that good than Scott Shannon.

And like I said, not a big fan of John Foxx and Annie Leamy. I rather stick to Allan David Stein from “Doo-Wop Drive” doing mornings on WMTR and it still sounds really good, and it’s way better than John Foxx and Annie Leamy, and it plays a lot of oldies from the 50’s and 60’s with a handful of 70’s than what WCBS-FM currently plays the 80’s and 90’s with some from the new millennium. This is why I no longer listening to WCBS-FM anymore, because of the new morning show. Overall, for the rating, i’ll give their new morning show a “D”.

I do remember there was one that I remember listening to WCBS-FM before Scott Shannon, it was Harry Harrison. And let’s face it. Harry Harrison was icon of morning radio when he was the “Morning Mayor” when CBS-FM ruled morning radio started in 1980 until 2003. That’s why Harry Harrison was the best morning show ever made, and then, Scott Shannon came in back in 2014 and it he was a dynamite morning person. I remember him from the “Z100” days and it sounded better for 9 years until he left a month and a half ago after he did his final show from the Blythedale Children’s Hospital back on December 16th of last year. I missed morning radio so much.

Enough said, let’s give it a listen. If you like their new morning show, fine. If you don’t like it, then don’t listen to it. Enjoy while it last.

What are your thoughts about their new morning show on WCBS-FM?

Since you don’t like John Foxx and Annie Leamy’s new morning show on WCBS-FM, let’s go back in time and listen to the “Morning Mayor” himself, Harry Harrison. This was the way it sounded as it was heard on WCBS-FM from 8/5/92. Harry Harrison was a dynamite morning DJ in New York radio where he went from WMCA to WABC and ended up at WCBS-FM and it was amazing. This is way better than John Foxx and Annie Leamy where they did their terrible morning show from the get go since day one.

Do you have an opinion on Broadway Bill Lee (afternoons on WCBS-FM), who might be the best jock still employed in America today?

Not really, I’m not a fan of Broadway Bill Lee, I love John Gabriel doing afternoons on WROW’s “Magic 590/100.5” and it’s on right after JJ Carter on WBPM.

To be fair, since my last post, right in the middle of an aircheck came Ron Lundy after Harry Harrison, and Ron was also a dynamite DJ in NYC radio where he came from WABC in 1982 to joined WCBS-FM in 1984 and he was still sounded as good until his final show in 1997. Ron was terrific on WCBS-FM for 13 or so years.

So if anyone who hates the new morning show with John Foxx and Annie Leamy as I posted, how about more Harry Harrison. Let’s take a time warp back to 8/4/92 to hear the way it sounded on WCBS-FM. He was sounded a good as John Foxx and Annie Leamy where they did now.

With all due respect, I thought YOU were “done” with the station after posting a long, painful and borderline insufferable wall of text after Scott Shannon retired. So why in the world are you subjecting us to ANOTHER wall of text post repeatedly putting down the show YOU yourself repeatedly stated you would not listen to?

If you don’t like the show and don’t like the station, here’s an idea: don’t bring it up! I don’t repeatedly pillory people that succeed or replace air talent I like. Maybe it would be a good move to do the same.

I am surprised, given what I've read in your posts, that you don't like Broadway Bill. His presentation is old school, his passion is genuine, and his knowledge of the music is top notch.
Even videos of Bill on the job show that passion. There’s a video of him at WQHT in 1988 on YouTube and he has the same level of energy and excitement in him. Only the technology changed.

Those listeners to WQHT back in the day (along with Z100 and Power95) are the prime audience for CBS-FM today. No other way around it.

Bill's TikTok page also has some great recent videos of him on WCBS-FM.

I collect cassette tapes and air checks, and last summer, I bought a lot of them from someone off of eBay. To my delight, I found a half of a side of a tape of Bill on WQHT in January or early February 1991!

Whatever happened to never listening again? I see that didn't last

Also, what the hell do you expect from morning show that literally just started? You need to give a show about a month or so to get into its groove. You can't expect the show to be polished and fully together when they come out of the gate. Even Scott Shannon didn't have his complete ensemble cast when he debuted on WCBS; it took him a while to get the people he wanted onto the show. What he started with on 101.1 with was quite different than what he ended up with just a year later, with an almost completely different cast. It is very easy to be an armchair critic, but doing morning radio--- let alone in market #1 where you are replacing a legend--- is no small feat and one that will take time to garner a following.

I suggest you go back to listening to whatever 20+ alternatives you spew and stop the endless, unproductive ranting.

I am not surprised based on the type of posts from this particular user.

Bill Lee is probably the strongest personality on the station, arguably. Was listening to him a few days ago. If you told me he was in his seventies, I would not have believed you. He is so fresh and has so much energy, it's infectious. A great example of the power of personality on radio.

Despite the pointless over-the-top ranting, I do appreciate having an aircheck, as I haven't really gotten to hear the show properly. I only have caught it in the 9 AM hour, which is still ostensibly part of the show. But all I heard was a few quick breaks by Foxx, with no sign of Annie or any "Foxx & Annie" imaging.

I haven't been the biggest fan of CBS-FM in the last few years, but am curious to see what John Foxx does with it. At least the station seems to be moving back into my musical wheelhouse since they are playing more '90s and rhythmic music. I am not a fan of '80s "corporate rock", though I obviously can't argue against it having wide appeal.

As noted above, it is way too early to pass any enduring judgment on the new show. Scott & Patty are bonafide radio icons, and their talents are irreplaceable. With that said, I'm also finding it refreshing to hear some new - and frankly, more lively - voices on CBS-FM. John Foxx sounds quite smooth for someone who hasn't (to my knowledge) held a full-time on-air shift in a half-decade, Annie's passion and energy really come through the speakers, and I think the existing balance of music and banter is on target.

Candidly, I think CBS-FM has calcified a bit in recent years (both regard to stationality and music), and it's been hard to hear the appeal for anyone under the age of 50. There's still some room for the new show to acclimate, but I think it will help CBS-FM move into the future while complementing the heritage personalities in other dayparts.

But before Broadway Bill Lee, the one afternoon show that I remember listening to CBS-FM, was none other than Don Bombard (aka Bob Shannon). And here it is from November 1986.

And here is Broadway Bill Lee on WQHT’s “Hot 97” from the early 1990’s. I used to listened to “Hot 97” when I was younger when Broadway Bill was still on at the time.

While the person who started this thread does not need to listen to a station he claims not to like, I think it's also true there is no need to read his posts, if you do not like them.
