Audio Generation Systems

I'm posting this on a couple of pages seeking quality input.

My company operates 3FMs and 2AMs and is in search of a new audio generation system. Three of the signals make use of a satellite-delivered product at least part-time.

I've been asked to post this to see if there is a consensus on the best system available.

So...how 'bout it? What's your favorite?

He must mean automation/music program....

Like Scott Systems or Music Master?

That's right. That which generates the audio on your station(s)...besides the people.

From my experience (I've worked with Audio Vault, Enco(crapco), Scott/Google, Arrakis, Music Master and NexGen)

Hands down, no question-- IMHO, NexGen is the best out there---not the cheapest (also not the costliest)---Any of the above systems will probably do what you need--- Nexgen just does it quicker and better (and is easier to learn)..

No,I do not get commission---but I should.

We've been able to do well with Simian and Music Master.
There is a great upgrade to these programs that will make them much better.

If you have the money to spend I recommend Nexgen, the RCS folks are totally amazing to work with.. If you need something simple and cheap.. Simian works very well.

as many times as this topic has been discussed, you can do a search for "automation" and get several threads of varying length on the different opinions on the various automation systems out there. What it boils down to is "how much do you want to spend".

I am just a bit petrified about the transition...

The only system I've actually had a really bad time with was ENCO. They were simply lucky I didn't have a concealed carry permit at the time! Perhaps they've improved since then but I really don't know.

ahhh Enco (we lovingly called it crapco)...

Granted, the company I was working for had a manager who did not find it important to invest in silly things like the air sound, so we had a REALLY old version of Enco--- I think it was DOS based--- If you had the mind of a computer programmer, it worked pretty well... if you think like an airtalent it would burn you every time-(crazy things like if you went to arrange a stopset for flow and did not get the cursor back to the next element in the log before your currently playing item ended Enco would SKIP everything and jump to where you were editing the log)-- I've see the current version in action and it does look better--- but I have no hands on experience.

and actually the last time I priced them--- Nexgen was a little cheaper than enco---

NexGen is the best out there. You can make NexGen sound tighter than any of the others if you know what you're doing. I am wary, however, of dealing with a Clear Channel company, as your "secrets" won't be yours anymore if they are allowed into your system. Scott/Google is a bear to write commands for but is very stable once written. AudioVault's newer versions are pretty good and very easy to manipulate, older ones have some memory issues. Simian is labor intensive but can be made to sound ok with time and extreme patience...things that take a second or two to do in NexGen or AudioVault can take ten times longer to set up in Simian. A program for penny-pinching operators who try to torture their people.
