Audio Generation Systems

I'm posting this on a couple of pages seeking quality input.

My company operates 3FMs and 2AMs and is in search of a new audio generation system. Three of the signals make use of a satellite-delivered product at least part-time.

I've been asked to post this to see if there is a consensus on the best system available.

So...how 'bout it? What's your favorite?

Audio generation? Do you mean automation or an audio processor? A bit confused here.

If you mean automation, then RCS NexGen is still my favorite. Second would be Audiovault, third iMediaTouch.

Thank you. Yes, I guess I mean "automation", although that once had an entirely different meaning. Most stations use 'em...even if they aren't completely automated.

I like BSI and their OpX is nice for station clusters. Their Simian is good for automation, WaveCart is great for Live Assist. I like NexGen but haven't had a lot of experience with it. BE AudioVault is superb for a satellite delivered format.

We have Simian, 2 satellite fed stations, one live assist, music on hard-drive. They are very competitive in price--look at the light version if you don't use any satellite (does not recognize triggers/ net cues or allow control of outside equipment). However, you do want to use the suggested ASI line of sound cards.

Audio Vault also competitive in price.

There have been lots of discussion about automation systems here. One consideration is what is used in your market. If you already have staff (or potential staff) who are familiar with a particular system it makes sense to use that system (unless it is prohibitively expensive or too elaborate for your needs). For example--one of our part-time staff is the instructor/gm at a local college--so when they replaced their obsolete Linux system they went with Simian which he was already familiar with.

Another consideration: traffic/billing systems (if you are commercial) and music programing (if you are planning to use music on hard-drive. Check to see if your existing software will be compatible with any future automation.

If you have the money to spend.. Nexgen is a wonderful option, RCS folks are great to work with! Very supportive and responsive. TOP notch product.

If you are on a budget I recommend BSI Simian.. does wonderful things at a great price.. (I'm programming a net station via simian lite)

When I was trying to help a college~ professor move his program into something akin to 'automation' I took the ZaraRadio option simply because it resembled what a young mind could understand: a media player with an interrupter box attached to the side.

I still use it at home... an alarm clock that changes stations. I couple that with the 1.3 beta version of Audacity and I'm also able to record segments without (cry) waking up.
