Audio: Glenn Beck Throws Philadelphia Under The Bus!

Only after finally being removed from the market does Beck - who, for a time, broadcast his show live from Philadelphia - decide to tell listeners that the town "sucks" and is unsafe, especially at night.

Audio here:
http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/...iladelphia_is_not_a_place_you_want_to_be.html

I can hardly wait to hear what he says about New York City after he starts broadcasting from a hidden bunker somewhere behind the brick and steel of a nondescript building, next door to Mark Levin! (He couldn't possibly trash the city now that he lives/works there...)

He should really have a beef with WPHT and CBS radio's management, not with the city. I guess if people want Beck, Sean Hannity, and the Geat one, Mark Levin, you get Sirius-XM. All 3 are on Sirius-XM Patriot or you can stream online from a radio station in another market that carries them. I believe it is a mistake not to have these shows on "free" over the air radio here but, I don't care. I'll listen to Sirius instead of 1210 and it's static. I'll just have a problem now when 1210 preempts Rush for Phillies. Never really noticed when they preempted Sean. I just listened via satellite.

If you're looking for an unsafe city, look across the river to a city that fires 1/2 of its police. Curtis Sliwa is there now in Camden.

Beck - who, for a time, broadcast his show live from Philadelphia

Actually, Bala Cynwyd. And despite what the Will Bunch of Daily News says in the blog, Beck broadcast from WPHT only for a couple of weeks until his own studio was ready a few blocks away and that's where he did his broadcast the rest of the time.

Philadelphia is not a place you want to be? Of course. Just ask people in Bucks, Montgomery, Delaware and Chester County. And yes, Philadelphia does have a serious crime problem. Just watch local TV news (if it leads it bleeds). Heck, just read any edition of the Daily News. All Beck is doing is reminding the rest of the country of what people in the Delaware Valley have long known.

Mark Levin does his show from WABC (2 Penn Plaza). Beck does his from Clear Channel (32 6th Ave). Not exactly next door.

Beck has his own studios in midtown Manhattan. He's not out of CC.

After listening to Beck's rant on the Philly.com link, it's just one more example of his whiny paranoia. Really, name me one major city that doesn't have crime problems.

You mean the tens of thousands (hundreds of thousands?) of people in the suburban counties who work and play in the city every day? Yeah.

I mean the hundreds of thousands who work, live and play in the suburbs and avoid going into center city. I mean the hundreds of thousands who have to go into center city (and pay wage tax) and hate it. I mean the hundreds of thousands who are glad they moved out of the city at the first opportunity who are glad to be able to step outside their doors without looking over their shoulders and are glad to have public schools which actually provide a safe environment and a decent education.

If it weren't for the airport and the sports complex, there are hundreds of thousands of people who would happily not set foot in Filthadelphia.

Glen Beck sucks. Be glad he's off the air in Philadelphia.
Glenn Beck does not suck. But CC needs to blow up a signal on FM and put Glenn and Sean there and grab Rush when you can. Philly can support an FM talker..it had one for years.

Bala? About a block west of City Line Ave close enough to Philly. Actually Mark doesn't broadcast out of WABC. It is still his flagship station but, he broadcasts out a studio in the basement of his surburban DC home.

Sliwa left his WABC/Citadel syndicated nighttime slot to do mornings at Salem's WNYM where he currently resides.

Mark Levin does his show from WABC (2 Penn Plaza).
As mentioned previously, Levin broadcasts out of his home studio in Northern Virginia. As with Rush, who broadcasts from Southern Florida, WABC is considered Levin's "flagship" station.

I didn't hear the show, but Beck would be foolish to slap down Philadelphia since he'll still have listeners from the region via the internet and satellite radio, and since Premiere is likely looking for a replacement affiliate in the market. It shows how unimaginative Beck's getting if that's all he has to fall back on. He should be slamming CBS, not Philly, but that would be biting the hand that holds other affiliates and potential affiliates.

Maybe y'all should find out what "flagship" means. If a station does not produce and originate a show, it's not a flagship. Rush used to do his show at WABC. Then it was his flagship; now he doesn't really have one since it's an independent production from his own facility. If Levin works from from Virginia, then WABC isn't his "flagship" either (maybe it was once). WJNO is not Rush's "flagship" either - he's not there. They take him off the bird like everybody else. And WPHT was not Beck's "flagship."

And Bala Cynwyd is not Philadelphia - big difference. It may not be obvious if you look at a map but it is to anyone who knows the area. Unfortunately, that doesn't stop criminals from crossing the street for muggings and hold-ups.

And this thread has one of the more inaccurate, misleading and deliberately incendiary headlines I've seen in a while. "Throws Philadelphia Under The Bus?" Please. Because he says Philadelphia has a crime problem? The city of Philadelphia continues to be a national disgrace. Violent crime. Political corruption. Bad behavior at ballgames. Terrible schools. Litter and trash. Corrupt, brutal police. Philadelphia has been on a downward slide since the completion of the Erie Canal but all some people want to talk about are pretzels and Tastykakes.

I would say more than 1/2 of the radio stations are not in Philly but in Bala, one block west of the city. Just like channel 10, across the street from Philly in Bala. They're all there in Lower Merion Twp. TO AVOID CITY WAGE TAX! Big difference? Stop nitpicking. Where's St. Joes? in Philly or Bala? or both? Listening to Bala Cynwyd's home of rock & roll right now.

Not living there, how does one phonetically pronounce "Bala Cynwyd"? I assume it is a Welsh name.

As Bala "Kin-wood."

It brings to mind the first week of (long departed) Jennifer Ward's tenure on KYW TV many years ago, when she was perplexed by that one--perhaps it never came up in rehearsals, but it came out as something like "Kine-wide."

As for Beck, "sucks" is in the ear of the beholder. You like him, great. You don't, great. He made some disparaging remarks that could be made about many cities--New York included. Big deal. If/when he lands a new affiliate, I can't see his loyal fans--in any significant number--suddenly refusing to listen because he made some remarks about the city (especially if they're among the set of suburbanites who happen to share his views about the city proper).

Thank you. Now, is it "Bal-a" or "Bay-la"? :) I'd be pronouncing the 2nd word "sin-wid" as a Yank.
