Audio: Glenn Beck Throws Philadelphia Under The Bus!

I know at least one of Rush's former fill-in hosts in the western U.S. used to fly to Los Angeles to do his subbing.

I don't think it's the historic status of WABC as "Rush's flagship" that sent WISN's Mark Belling to NYC, it was probably that they wanted a network control room for him (so they were not subject to the whims and occasional glitches in ISDN fill-in).

Mark Steyn (Rush's other current primary fill-in) mentioned on his last fill-in that he was now broadcasting via a new ISDN line from his Vermont home... and laughed when the anachronistic "Live from New York, it's Open Line Friday" liner was played - as prior to that, he did fly into NYC to do the show.

Mark Levin's show first originated at WABC before being relayed to WMAL/Washington (and eventually, via ABC/Citadel). By that same token, WABC is that show's historical flagship... even though normally, Levin does the show in the shadow of WMAL.

I presume Belling and Armstrong Williams will still fly directly into NYC.

Curtis Sliwa is there now in Camden.

Somebody else dropped from talk radio.
Sliwa left his WABC/Citadel syndicated nighttime slot to do mornings at Salem's WNYM where he currently resides.

And Sliva's leaving WABC was due to poor management at that station. After all, he had co-hosted a successful morning show with Ron Kuby before it was blown up for Imus.

That's Citadel's fault and Citadel's fault alone.

I'm surprised they are letting Mark Steyn do fill-in from home from Vermont.

At least a few years ago, Premiere was rather insistent that the fill-in host be physically present in their own control room, either Los Angeles (Sherman Oaks, their facility there, same place Jim Rome uses) or New York (llkely WABC, but Premiere has facilities there, too, of course).

From what I understand, they liked the control over the feed, and the network redundancies...so they were not prone to dropping ISDN remote lines, etc.

And with the budget Rush's show most certainly has, a quick flight to NYC or LA for one host cost-wise is not even down in the noise.
