Audio Interface

I'm looking into getting an audio interface. I do not have firewire on my present pc...is there a firewire box with alternate power that I can use. I'd like to get a firewire interface so that when I upgrade my pc I'm good to go.

What's better? Presonus? M-Audio? Looking for the best bang for the buck.

I think it depends a lot on what your requirements are . Some of the interfaces I've seen allow you to plug in just about anything, but they're expensive.
Mine is an older Edirol UA-3D but it's great for my simpler requirements, got it for under 100 bucks. it's a USB interface and acts as my sound card too.

I'm looking to upgrade so if anybody's working with one they like or has a recommendation please post.

I have limited experience with both M-Audio and Presonus...

I have a Presonus Firebox that I'm playing around with in Logic ( MAC ), and thus far, I actually like the sound of it BETTER than my 002 that I use with Pro Tools.

The Firebox is nice, it's small, it's very portable...

I don't know how the mic pres sound on it though...but so far it's nice.

I had an M-Audio USB interface or two...they were great...but they're not very clean. You have to use REALLY nice cables to keep down the hum factor. However, since Digidesign bought M-Audio, and opened up Pro Tools ( M-Powered version ) to work with all M-Audio interfaces...if you ever wanted to walk the Pro Tools plank, that'd be a good way to get in for a bargain basement price.

I have a friend who uses Adobe Audition on a variety of PCs, and he has a couple of the MOTU interfaces...he likes them alot. They have PCI based, as well as Firewire and now USB 2.0 based interfaces...that's another viable alternative, albeit pricey.

Good luck!
