Audio Leads/Cable

Hey Guys,
I know its a basic question but never the less a important one. What make of audio leads/cable and xlr to you all use and find the best in connecting your audio chain together? Im looking for new phono to xlr and xlr to xlr cable. Any web sites selling your recamondations would be great! Thanks

Canare Cable hands down. I'm still old fashioned and prefer Switchcraft over Neutrik connectors but really either is good. I always preferred Switchcraft over Cannon and Amphenol in the old old days.

When they first came out were really bad. Had what looked like nylon jaws.

Tried them again in 2000 and haven't had a failure since even when re-purposing them.

Did they stop using the nylon jaws? Haven't tried them in a few years.

I also had problems with their chassis connectors -- we made the mistake of using them on the side panel of a live truck, the operators managed to push the inserts all the way through the panel!

Switchcraft XLR connectors, but others sometimes do as well. General rule, if it's designed to be fast and easy to assemble, it's probably going to fail fast and easy. Switchcraft are pretty easy but don't waste time with the speedy stuff tricks stuff like the Neutrik.
For cable nothing beats Belden 9451 for conventional 1 pair balanced wiring. It strips easier and cleaner than my old favorite, 8451.

Properly assembled, both the Switchcraft and the Neutrik A3X connectors will fail the wire before it pulls out of the clamp. Improperly assembled, either one can give you grief. Take your pick, but put them together correctly.

Wire? Belden or Canaire. Both make a good product for a competitive price. I like the Canaire star quad for mic wire, and Belden for pretty much everything else.

Agreed fully about the Canare mike cable. Best stuff I've ever used for the purpose.

Here's what we use: Switchcraft for XLR... Belden or Clark for Studio... Canare Quad for mic, especially remotes.
We use a variety of colors of Canare to make cable identification simple at hectic remotes.

Good Stuff!
