AUDIO OVER IP STL

As most of you know, the days of pots and isdn may be numbered due to the phone company moving to packet based technology, so it appears audio over ip is the next frontier.looking at units for dedicated stl.the Apt-x worldcast horizon with enhanced apt-x with 4:1 comp, and the Comrex Access which has several coding options and uncompressed linear.dedicated circuit and bandwidth is no problem.the comrex units are around 5200.00 a pair, the aptx near 4500.00.all input will be appreciated.thanks

I'm also looking for audio-over-IP STL solutions, but I'm looking at strictly uncompressed. I found two solutions for now.

One is AudioTx STL-IP. They have stand-alone hardware unit as well as software that runs on a PC. Price is $2800 per unit (hardware), that would be $5600 for a pair. Software version (AudioTx Communicator) is around $900. Both the software and hardware can use MPEG Layer-II and Layer-III Compression, besides PCM. More info: http://www.audiotx.com/

The second solution would be using two Axia Analog nodes. I think the price is about $2600 per unit. This would be an uncompressed-only version, but can carry multiple channels (8 to be precise) should you need it. More info: http://www.axiaaudio.com

you may check out comrex.com for the access units.seems to have better features than the stl-ip units.and with their bric technology will even work on the net, although i prefer a dedicated network for STL.heard a remote with the access units over POTS lines, just darn awesome.the access is the future for remotes over IP.may have to take them up on the demo.but critics say the enhanced apt-x is so close to uncompressed files, the human ear cannot tell the difference.never dealt with the apt-x codecs, so i'm not sure about that claim.right now i think the money is on the access, but check out tieline.com, they're big players.

Apt-X is an excellent codec. Superior to mpeg. You can cascade Apt-x 3 times before hearing any real noticable degradation. (not that you'd WANT to do that)

I believe Energy-Onix also has an STL over internet product. They call it something like Tele-Link. Could be someone else's product and rebranded.

I have used the Energy-Onix Tele-Link system and it seemed to work fine. One thing I liked about it was that you could store music on its hard drive and if the IP connection was lost for more than a time limit that you set it would could start playing from its hard drive. It would go back to its IP source when its connection was restored. Nice system using the Linix os. Look at their website for more information.
