Audio Stores, Where Are the Radios?

Cal Stymes said:
What great solutions that autopaint-1 and IBOCRocks have mentioned for remote venues where landlines won't work! Darn I wish I'd have thought of them. It's those great engineering minds that come up with the very best solutions. I could learn a thing or two if I hang out here. ;D

I am now a disciple of HD/IBOC. I have seen the light of this emerging technology and woe to all those who refuse to embrace it. Ibiquity is what will save our free radio from the clutches of extinction. Have a great HD-listening weekend and may your BA Receptor always stay in digital mode! ::)

So Cal, since I detect a hint of sarcasm in your voice, what are YOUR qualifications, then? I am on the engineering side of things. What about you?

IBOCRocks pontificated:

So Cal, since I detect a hint of sarcasm in your voice, what are YOUR qualifications, then?

Sarcasm? Me? Never! ::) I am way to cynical to be sarcastic!

Like I have said previously, I have no qualifications or accomplishments that I care to share here. I am what network engineering (in contrast to Univision) Dave would call a "radio/tv wannabe". I'm a nobody. I'm nobody who will ever make a difference in the grand scheme of things. I'm low on the radar. I'm part of the great unwashed public that is learning how to live in modern times. "Modern" however, doesn't necessarily mean "better" just because it is so.

I am on the engineering side of things. What about you?

I am always "on the engineering side of things". In general, I LIKE engineers. They are usually forthright, honest, intelligent and tell it like it is. I particularly like the engineers who really know what they're talking about. I learn from those guys!

Unfortunately though, broadcast upper management doesn't often listen to engineers (until of course it is too late and they are already "off the air"). So when engineers look at a technology like HD/IBOC, conclude that it is somebody's idea of a band aid that will only provide an engineering solution to a programming problem but are nevertheless forced to accommodate it and then install it anyway, it makes one wonder whether what forces are really in control of what we hear on the radio and see on TV. I can tell you that it certainly isn't the engineers!

As long as we have bean counters running the broadcating conglomerates who are interested only in profit and how cheaply they can get away with producing the product then we are going to get beans for programming. But for radio, a side benefit of IBOC is that we get to hear those beans in HD! There is something wrong with THAT model as well. It didn't used to be like that.

Nice try, but you're incorrect. I am in a position to talk to the engineers "in the trenches" and I have yet to talk to one that has a problem with IBOC, or feel that he's been "pushed" to do it.

If you aren't connected directly to what's going on, then anything you think is going on is pure speculation at this point.

IBOCRocks expounded:

Nice try, but you're incorrect.

Nice try? What did I try? Oh my goodness gracious you're angry too. :( Why is everybody who posts in this topic so angry?

I am in a position to talk to the engineers "in the trenches"

Yikes! I thought you yourself are an engineer "in the trenches"! So, in which "trenches" (i.e. in what market) do you talk to engineers?

and I have yet to talk to one that has a problem with IBOC,

Actually, most of them don't CARE that much about IBOC because it makes them yawn.

or feel that he's been "pushed" to do it.

Now that's funny! What would you expect them to say if they had been "pushed" to do it? "My general manager made me do it", or better yet, "My vice-president in charge of engineering widgets and HD/IBOC implementation made me do it"?

If you aren't connected directly to what's going on, then anything you think is going on is pure speculation at this point.

Ayup! More truer words were never more spoken. My postings ARE pure speculation... that is of course, if I'm not connected directly to what's going on.

There! I think I got that right! Maybe I could be an engineer too someday. :D

Maybe you could. It would probably be a station that still uses cart machines and tube transmitters, though. :)

And me angry? You're friend is the one swearing and ranting. Show me a post where I'm angry. I find you guys quite amusing!

IBOCRocks thusly spake:

Wowee! Do you think I have a shot?

And me angry? Your friend is the one swearing and ranting.

He is NO friend of mine. He is disruptive and all he is looking for is attention. That is why I say he should be totally IGNORED. If you don't give him any attention then he will GO AWAY.

Show me a post where I'm angry.

You are angry when you say things like "Nice try". I still don't know what I was trying nicely to do.

I find you guys quite amusing!

I am no fan of IBOC but I am also NO fan of his. He gives people who share his point of view an awfully bad reputation.

Sir, looks like your are the disruptive one - adding nothing of quality to this message board ! I say, if we all ignore you, hopefully, you will go away !

I wil not address you again, sir ! :D

He's not angry. I'd say he's angry if he starts swearing and threatening like you. He doesn't need to to that though, because unlike you, he at least has earned some respect. You're just a punchline.

"Nice try? What did I try? Oh my goodness gracious you're angry too. Why is everybody who posts in this topic so angry?"

Cal is being the disruptive one !

Why have you resorted to tattling now? Why so angry? Are you going to start swearing again?

That was quoted from Cal - do I need to spell it out next time for you ? Cal and you are being the dramatic, emotional ones on this board - remember your eulogy ?

Nope...I don't ever remember a eulogy. I do remember the posts where you just fall apart in anger as we tear apart your lies. Look at this - you can't even post links anymore...you're just posting attacks like a deparate person.

Thanks for the humor!

Management removed your eulogy thread, because it was off-topic, AND IT WAS SOOOO DRAMATIC ! Did you get any "sympathy" votes from pro-IBOC'ers. Maybe, those two people are going to buy HD radios just to spite me, but they had better hang on to their receipts !

HA! Another lie. The thread that you have referred to incorrectly as my "eulogy" is still here. People with even a basic level of education can find it. HINT: Posts don't "magically" dissapear at the bottom of the page.

Don't flatter yourself. Nobody is buying anything to spite you. You're not worth the money.

I think many people remember your dramatic eulogy ! If I'm, "not worth the money", then why do you keep replying to my posts ?

"What a joke - the Receptor HD needs a dipole antenna mounted high/externally "

Where did you read this gem? I know you have no personal experience with the radios. My BA uses the dipole, inside my house and it's hidden, not fully exended about 1 foot above the floor. Even my cat can reach it.
Missed the litterbox again? ;D
