For those of you have missed it yesterday, Tommy Edwards did his final show on WJMK's "K-Hits" in Chicago after 54 years on the radio. He is now retired from the radio airwaves. Tommy Edwards started his career at KTOP in Topeka, Kansas where he was born, and then moved to Washington DC where he worked at WEAM for a short time and then moved to New York City where he made a gig at WOR-FM when it was a Drake-Chenault Top 40 station in the late 60's and early 70's. After that, he went to Chicago where he did his shift at WLS and he also did his "Animal Stories" segment with Larry Lujack. After that, he went to LA where he was a program diector at KCBS-FM as a classic rock station, and then went to Boston at WODS as PD and then went back to Chicago in 2011 at WJMK's "K-Hits" as its final stop back in 2011. Tommy has been with "K-Hits" for 3 years, and he did the best for it. He is also a public address announcer for the Chicago Bulls (more like Bob Sheppard, the public address announcer for the New York Yankees which has been for years) and he still continues to do so today after he left radio.
I recorded the entire final show yesterday and it's 5 hours long. The show originally started at 9 AM which is Chicago time, here in New York, it started at 10 AM and it runs until 3 PM in New York and ended at 2 PM in Chicago. I had to recorded it while I was at work when I left the house. No buffering of any kind, but it's a great sounding show.
As you know, WJMK's "K-Hits" is owned by CBS, the same company that owns WCBS-FM and other stations in the CBS cluster. The music on this final show has assortment of 70's and 80's songs along with a mixed bag of 60's music that CBS-FM almost vanished from the airwaves. It's a great sound sounding show, and if you are a fan of Tommy Edwards from back in the WOR-FM days, you should give it a listen. After that, will here Tommy Edwards' final sign-off and played the final two songs "(I Had the) Time of My Life" by Billy Medley & Jennifer Warnes (from the movie "Dirty Dancing") and "Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey.
Enjoy this final show.
