Audio: WHUM 1240 "Hum Country"

Aircheck from 1982 of 1240 WHUM back when they were a country station. Includes the tail end of a commercial for something on Channel 51. I bet you don't hear any radio spots for Channel 51 in its current state these days... By the way, as an added bonus, there are rotating photos on the video of the station's control room and other areas, as well as promotional materials. Enjoy!

What a great radio station. They changed Reading Radio. Dave Bernstein ran it and made it a killer in sales, sound and promotion. They became the top billing station in Reading and made WEEU,WRAW, and WRFY take notice. Thanks for sharing.

I remember the "There's only one...1240 HUM". I completely forgot about this station. Does this station exist anymore, new call letters?

It's now on the bird ESPN and the calls are WIOV AM.
Now when I was a kid living in Ephrata, there was an AM station that WIOV owned, but not sure what the call letters were. I used to ride my dirt bikes past the FM and AM towers. The AM towers were closer to Rt. 322 and not that easy to find. I can't remember the frequency setting either but I guess that is long gone too?

Where were the WHUM studios and offices? From those pictures on the youtube, those facilities were pretty spiffy looking. Classy, early 80's cheesy, but for that time classy, offices.

They were in the office building on Front Street, next to the old Holiday Inn that became Reading Area Community College. It was a great facility. I worked there for
8 or 9 years. Eventually the college took over that building as well.
