AUDIO: WPDH 1975-77 As A Country Station

Has anyone remembers WPDH, before a classic rock which is still stands today, it was a country station back in the early to mid 1970’s, and this hasn’t become a rock station by the late 1970’s. Throughout its run, the station played a lot of country music.

And today, you can listen to Kevin Richards on WKBE’s “Big Country 107.1” for his “Classic Country Hall Of Fame” every Saturday morning playing classic country music the way it sounded on both WPDH and WHN back in the 1970’s.

Thanks to “CV2200A” on YouTube for finding these airchecks from the glory days of WPDH when it was a country station, along with another aircheck of Rich Stevens on WKIP from 1968 where I will be posting it later on.

Enjoy this piece of Hudson Valley radio history. This is WPDH when it was a country station. Enjoy!

I've still got a Broadcasting Yearbook from 1977 that lists WPDH as Modern Country. But...When I first heard WPDH in the spring of 1977...They had already flipped to AOR. That particular Broadcasting Yearbook was actually updated to 7/1/76...so they must have flipped to AOR in late 1976 or very early 1977...

Audio says not available, did it expire ? Please repost want to hear what WPDH sounded as a country station back in 1975-1977.

I think WPDH was all automated in those days. I remember it a little bit when it was Country. But then it switched to Album Rock, still automated for its first years in that format. Wikipedia says because it was beaten by Country station 1050 WHN New York, management gave up on the Country format in 1977, switching to AOR.

Thanks for posting...do you have other Hudson Valley radio shows to trade ? I have a big collection on hang. Looking for WSPK shows 1974-1976.

Wow! Country was a lot twangier in the Hudson Valley on this station than it was in New York on WHN. Was WPDH using a one-size-fits-all national playlist?

Listening to Jack Daniels giving the school lunch menus brought back memories. This feature has been discontinued on the radio today.
