AudioVault Viocetracking quesions

Having used AV at a couple of different places, I have come to know come quirks on different setups. However, at my new job a there is one problem with voicetracking that has me stumped. This setup, once you record a voicetrack, wont let you rerecord on that same VTK cut. You have you delete and re add a VTK to record at the same place. At the other setups, you could re record over and over again and there was no issue.

Also, is there a way to adjust the "ducking" parameters for Voicetracking, like how much to bring down the music, the fade up time, etc? Thanks!

You need to call BE. The re-recording issue sounds like you have a file system issue.

The ducking needs to be set in the ini file for pre-Flex versions. For Flex, it can be accessed in the AvAir Engine Config.

Danke schoen. It only does it on one of the machines (the one dedicated to tracking oddly enough). One more question....I would like certain sweepers to talk up songs & hit the post automatically (I know that NexGen can do this on the fly). Is there a way to do it in AudioVault, perhaps using tertiary tones or putting the sweeps in as VTK's?

AudioVault does this in the ini file (or in the engine config in Flex), I need to know what version you are running.

I will assume you aren't running Flex.

in the ini in the avair AND avscheduler section, you would put.

VoiceTrackCategories=VTK,etc... (this is the 3 letter category of where your voicetracks or dry sweepers go. Multiple categories can be , separated)
VoiceTrackSlide=0 (I prefer not to delay the song to start, this is the # of seconds you will allow the next song to be delayed if you want the sliding track or sweeper to hit the post)
DuckDownTime=500 (this is ms for a ramping duck down, I actually prefer 100)
DuckUpTime=500 (same thing, duck up)
DuckGain=-3 (this is the ducking applied while the track is playing. The default is -9, which is way too low)

We are running Vault2 if that helps at all. So when a segue hits, the next song & VTK sweeper will hit at the same time..correct? If its a 5 sec sweep going into a 3 sec intro, will AudioVault hold off on starting the song until 2 seconds into the sweep? I'm sorry for all the questions....but since this station is automated, I'd like it to sound as live as possible, and running dry sweeps over song intros just makes everything flow better.

If you want it to slide the liner to hit the post, you will adjust the VoiceTrackSlide to a number higher than 0 that is the number of seconds it is allowed to delay the sweeper. At 0, Song One would end, and the sweeper and Song Two would start at the same time. If slide was set at 3 and the song had a 5 second intro and the liner was three seconds long, Song One would end, Song Two would Start and the 3 second sweeper would begin two seconds into song 2 to hit the post.

Once again, you should call BE, you pay a licensing fee for support. They will set this up for you.

That's tomorrows project - I'm not the engineer, just the PD, so I'll be asking our engineer if he can make this work. Thank you for all the help, and for answering my questions.

You're welcome. I am IT & PD of two stations. Here is what I suggest.

Create a Dry Sweeper category for the stuff you want to float. Add it to the VoiceTrackCategories list. Make sure that you trim them very tight and do not put sec tones on them. I strongly suggest leaving the Slide at 0. I think it sounds sloppy when you delay the liner to hit the post. To me, it sounds like a jock coming in late to take a break. I would suggest making dry sweeps of various lengths and then using your music scheduler to match them via sound codes more closely to the intro of the song they are coming into (I do this with MusicMaster).

For example, my ini section is this (obviously, BLD is my dry liner category:

VoiceTrackCategories=VTK,BLD
VoiceTrackSlide=0
DuckDownTime=100
DuckUpTime=50
DuckGain=-3

Good luck.
