Audition 3.0 error message

Panic!

The issue appears to be with the registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\MIME\Database\Charset

xerces.dll is a program that translates XML, and is used by multiple applications, not just Audition. Adobe has had problems with incorrect registry keys being generated that direct xerces to code pages that don't exist.

For a quick & dirty fix, you may be able to simply delete the above registry entry. Check out this discussion:

DO NOT modify your registry unless you have a good backup, or at least a backup of the key that you're about to modify or remove.

Thank you for the above advice. I followed the instructions to the letter but could not find anything in my registery that matched the description of a bad key entry. I also fully removed and reinstalled Audition. I still get the error message.

However, I've found that if I open the program as the adimistrator I don't get the error message. Anyone able to explain that to me . And with that in mind is there any other fix I should try?

I failed to mention earlier that I'm running Vista.

You appear to be having a "permissions" error. As administrator, you have access to everything on your system. As a user, you don't. As a Power User, you have some administrator rights.

The first three steps of the http://www.winfixes.info/15/ should do the trick, but I'll admit that I haven't tried this with Vista.

Another option may be to right-click on the startup icon and select "Run as administrator".

Good Luck tracking this down. You might try Adobe support for help, especially since you're running Vista. I'll bet that you're not the only one with the problem.

Again, thanks. I used the tip you included but as I said, there were no keys that met the criteria so I left them alone. As you suggested I've just been running the program as the administrator but Adobe is next on my hit list.
