AUDITION 3.0

Adobe Audition 3.0 is up on some of the torrent sites and imho is quite a step up from 2.0. Rock solid, no crashing and some pretty cool new features. Props to Emmet who called an improvement on this new release months ago.

kentkay, any site in particular? feel free to use my message.some of these sites have porno.would not mind seeing the product.thanks

We got the upgrade legit, and it is quite good. It has a neat "on the fly" gain control when in edit mode that allows you to adjust parts of a track that need it..Kinda like a normalize feature but real-time adjustable, and that makes for some easier mixdowns.

Speaking of that, this version of AA interfaces much more smoothly with the Mackie Controllers for auto-fader control etc.

ONE small thing..maybe Emmett has been able to crack this..but according to Adobe this was an "undocumented non-feature" that, now, no longer works..Here goes:

In edit mode I used to be able to highlight a segment of a track (with a flub or something) by LEFT clicking the mouse and highlighting the mistake.. then while holding the mouse button down be able to hit the space bar and the highlighted section would play..NOW with AA3 it won't playback until you let up on the mouse button..mkes it a lot harder to isolate a consenant etc..it's..(gulp) a lot more like Pro Tools...

Overall 3.0 is smoother, has fewer glitch issues, and in general is a much better tool for production IMHO. It's certainly worth the money.

Per the Adobe website the upgrade is $99.

$349 if you get it new without upgrading from another version of AA.

Nope...No fix for it. I never worked in that way, so it isn't something I would have noticed. I saw your post and response from Durin on the Adobe site. If there was a decent workaround, Durin would know it! I know how bad it sucks when your workflow gets messed up!

On the other hand, I can't stand to work on previous versions anymore because I've grown so attached to the gain knob, quick fades, ripple delete and auto-crossfades in MT. Those may seem like small features, but they're some of the most valuable features I've ever seen.

The time compressor takes some getting used to. It's a completely different algorithm, designed by iZotope (they use the same one in their Radius). Once you get it figured out, though, it sounds fantastic!

You mean the stretch feature? What can I do to make work properly? I much peferred the "medium" precision setting for voice work. Is the time compression feature labeled something different? I have only been messing with 3.0 on an alternate machine.

Hey Jeff-
Yes, that's it. The constant stretch, I am told, is the new version, while the glide stretch uses the old technology. I have heard from clients that other people are having the same issues. I hope I can figure out how to use it....otherwise, I can't see making an upgrade.

Like I mentioned I used to use the MEDIUM PRESICION setting for best results..with the new stretch feature I get really nice results with the CONSTANT VOWEL SOUNDS BOX CHECKED, AND HIGH PRESICION. That seemed to be as close to the Pro Tools time compress feature that I have found. It does take a fast processor though, or you'll be waiting for a pizza to get it done..ANOTHER great time compress plug in that works as a DirectX feature in Audition is pitchworks' by "delaydots" program..and its FREE available here:

http://www.delaydots.com/xfreeware.html

Sonic Foundry (Sony) has a great time compress plug as well. Comes with Sound Forge or Vegas, can't recall. I bought it as part of a DX package years ago from SF. Love it and the Dynamics compressor!

IMO, the new Audition algorithm comes pretty damn close to Pro Tools, when the settings are right. And I don't think I'll get any arguments that Pro Tools has the best time stretcher on the market. But it does take some experimentation. I did some beatmixes and I was blown away by the quality on a full mix. It seems to perform best with more dramatic stretching (odd as that seems). Ratios of 108 and greater seem to work best.

I love to figure things like this out.. And I WILL..
as soon as I get it, I'll holler at you. \\\\

Audition 3 is a much improved version..I am now used to the lack of the editiing feature that I griped about earlier..and now I have another query..that I will be able to answer this weekend..but maybe one of you gurus can clue me in as to whether I will have a problem with this or not..bear with me here....

I have bought for real money Cool Edit Pro version 1,Cool Edit Pro version 2, and then bought a full version of Adobe Audition 1.0, paid for the upgrade to 1.5, and the upgrade to 2.0. The 2.0 upgrade, and apparently all versions of 2.0 will allow you to install the program on two computers, but it can only be run on one or the other..and apparently "calls home" to make sure...now here's the question.

I bought a downloadable upgrade to 3.0. When I installed it..It asked for the serial number for the full version that WAS installed..I entered the S/N for 1.5. THEN I bought a BOXED version of 3.0 (that has another serial number) When it asks for a serial number can I enter the S/N from my 1.5 version, or my 2.0 version and will it treat that as another install of 3.0?

Question..if I install the downloaded version of AA3 on one PC here in NC. and the boxed version on another..will I be able to run TWO instances of 3.0 here?

THEN Can I duplicate the process on one of my laptops, and the PC in the Atlanta studio? I no case will I be running duplicate downloaded versions, nor boxed versions..Does Adobe treat two separate and paid for upgrades to 3.0 as TWO separate and registered versions of the program?

Allegedly I will be covered with AA3 on all available PCs..

Do-able?

At $99 for the upgrade I just may have to make that move! I bought CEP and have upgraded twice to now be at AA 1.0, but being taught by old school mentors I can't bring myself to fix something that ain't broke without darn good reason.

I only upgraded my Acid Pro 4.0 to 6.0 after enough friends told me the improvements were worth the money, and it weren't no $99 bucks! ;D

It should also be noted that all versions of AA will coexist happily on the same machine. AA 1.5 is hard to beat for a super-quick edit. It also requires a lot less juice. So I go back to 1.5 for larger multitrack projects that require 24+ tracks with a channel strip on every track.

The point is, if 3.0 doesn't suit ALL of your needs, you can still skip back to a previous version easily.
