Auditions for KICKS morning show

Anyone else listening to the morning show? This week, mid-day guy Bill Celler is "filling in." Last week, it was Cadillac Jack. Here are my impressions sofar.Caddy has never sounded better than he did last week. Caddy is a lone gunman on afternoons, and not used to sharing mike time. I attribute this success to Kristin Gates, the producer. She engages Caddy in conversations and topics and kept the show moving. If Caddy gets this job, he should insist that Kristin stay on as producer. She makes him a better man!Bill is the Gold Standard, though. He has a much better sense of humor than Caddy. Much more entertaining even though both are very professional. Quicker on the uptake with a quip, Bill is smooth without being oily, funny without doing standup, gets along beautifully with the other players. Bill has a sincerity that comes through the mike. The guy's got depth we haven't seen yet!I laugh when Bill talks.....I smile when Caddy talks.Too bad Jim Vann won't get a chance to grab this brass ring.I also think that there is too much estrogen in this show, and Kristin should stay. Two people whose voices are almost identical are one voice too many.KICKS management has a chance to do a good thing here, and hire one of these guys for morning man. After the recent revolving door, a solid interior choice would make KICKS less vulnerable WHEN....NOT IF...some other station in this market changes format and goes head-to-head with KICKS in Country format.Of course, I could be wrong....it's happened before....hard to imagine, though...

Katz Broadcasting bought a station up in Gainesville and went after them. A visionary named Dick Ferguson ran Katz and understood How It's Done. And brought in his genius programmer/ops guy who was in Syracuse New York at the time, a blonde short kid named Bob Neal. Who put Rhubarb on, got some really good promotion going, and ran the suburban signal up to an 8 share (check). Before they added one on the South side of town as a simulcast. And KICKs? Came consolidation they saw the sensible thing to do, and bought the competitor.Neal parlayed it into being head of Cox Radio, and promptly bought Katz, which had become New City. Ferguson's retired. Will there ever be such a group of visionaries again? Good question. I don't see them on the horizon.
