Aug '22 Monthly Report 12+ Mon-Sun

WKRD is in second to last place.
  • WAMZ iHeartMedia
    7.2 (1) - 6.8 (1) - 6.9 (1)
First time to lead the market three months in a row under monthly measurement.
  • WQNU Summit
    3.3 (10t) - 4.1 (7) - 4.2 (5)
    Largest share since Jan. 2021.

WAKY is in second place and WHAS is in third place. How about that? And WVEZ continues to slide. I guess Hot A/C is not for them!
And lets not forget ALT 105.1 slipping to .09. Maybe the Woody show will help them. I doubt it.

These numbers seem so so for everyone just about. Hot Ac never seems to light the world on fire in Louisville no matter whom does it but getting rid of Jesse in the morning with MJ not that great an idea on mix 106.9

The woody show is really funny. I am surprised there goin for a west coast show. But it's not local so I have my doubts it will do that well on alt 105.1
The classic alt station in Indy runs it. I do like how Louisville has two alt stations. 91.9 fpk and alt 105.1

But 105.1 gets blown up fairly frequently like 102.3 does. But Lrs 105.1 lasted almost a decade. Seems like the former oldies stations which most are now 80s oldies with a few 70s n 90s do well in the country. Waky seems to do well.

I agree that Hot AC has had a problem in this market but Hot AC nowadays is almost indistinguishable from CHR and DJX is such a legacy powerhouse with that format I see Mix 106.9 more in competition with them than anyone else and as a result they are just not going to get the numbers they think they can.

The difference I see between hot ac and chr is hot ac plays a lot less of the hip hop. For instance the song California girls from Katie perry chr plays the one with snoop dog and hot ac plays it without and there are more examples of that over the years. But over the years hot ac has become more like chr but you can still tell a difference.

Lately on a hot ac station I been hearing a new artist Jax with Victorias secret but not as much on chr. It has kinda a pop punk sound. Wonder why 106.9 flipped to hot ac? I remember when I was younger then playing Billy Joel and Phil Collins.

there are differences for sure but HOT AC hardly has any core artists that are exclusive to that format alone...they are usually safer bet artists/songs crossovered from CHR..,,the HOT AC format also tends to rely longer on what would be CHR's recurrents ...sometimes making them bigger hits than they were on CHR...Sia's Unstoppable comes to mind recently ....yes I remember the days of "no rap" versions being a thing...not sure how this is now since it's become so mainstream and CHR doesn't have many core "hip-hop" acts ...most are ones that are mainstays of Rhythmic CHR/Urban that crossover to mainstream CHR ...I think in some markers HOT AC is a bit more progressive and in others not so much...I think 106.9 just eventually evolved to it's current format and maybe got a bit too comfortable with it's numbers as a mainstream AC and thought they could give it a go to see if they could eat away at CHR (DJX's) numbers...but it's obvious that was a misstep...the first sign of this was completely abandoning 80's in their format...which I think is a mistake for any HOT AC format and it snowballed from there...but I've noticed they have added 80's back in the mix probably as a response to 102.3 abandoning the Jack format ....and the Jax song is currently in rotation on both DJX & 106.9....I think both formats can break a song simultaneously which blurs the lines more than they have in the past

These ratings simply reflect the wrong companies with the wrong programming philosophies are holding the market hostage. Iheart, Summit, Alpha, PLEASE SELL AND LEAVE.
oh without a doubt which is why I have long moved on from terrestrial radio but I will always keep tabs on the industry as a whole even with the slow demise of commercial terrestrial radio

Just like the alt format has core artists that are burnt to a crisp like red hot chili peppers with Dani California or scar tissue or nirvana with teen spirit. Personally anytime I hear one of those 80s tunes like melt with you I cringe and change that station so fast. It's funny when ya think about it in a couple months mix 106.9 will go all Santa all the time and that's more of a AC thing to do not HOT AC but it's there tradition. The mix of Christmas music is the same as it was when they were HOT AC

What are your thoughts on 102.3 latest format. My problem is the name. I realize there appealing to women but the rose really I would have gone with a little Louie 102.3 or light 102.3. Wish I had twenty bucks for everytime 102.3 has been blown up. The phrase the more things change the more they stay the same apply here. They sound alot like love 102.3 when they blew up Lrs 102 in favor of love 102.3 in July of 1999.
