August 1st as come and gone and still no new format on 101.9

Looks like WEMP is not ready to launch it's final format yet. Chicago has Launched their news format but still no changes in NY other than more Newscasts, Traffic and entertainment reports.
A lot of people felt Aug. 1st was the day when 1019 dropped the music. Apparently we will have to listen to those sped up songs a little while longer.

I wonder if they will elect to flip to the new News on a Friday like WWWN-FM did in Chicago...would mean August 5 or August 12.

Maybe I'm reading a little too much into this, but... would a September 11 launch date be feasible? Since is it the 10th anniversary of 9/11, and it falls on a Sunday, I would guess not for both of those reasons. But I certainly would be interested in hearing WEMP's 9/11 coverage.

Listen? I doubt it. Spot check here and there for the hell of it maybe. Emmis is still a part owner so they'll probably revamp the WRXP shoebox studio for this new MILF talk/News experiment. Probably turn the hall closet into the news studio. LOL

Use 9/11 to bump up the hype for a format flip? That's pretty crass, even for New York City, where Wall Street and Madison Avenue pretty much define crass. I can't see it.

Whenever the launch is I hope it sounds better than the Friday Afternoon Launch in Chicago. This Clip from the Chicago board has been a big topic of discussion on that board. if you haven't heard it take a listen.

After listening to this disaster you kind of wonder was Randy really ready to launch this format or was he doing it Just to get the jump on CBS launching it's FM Simulcast of WBBM on Aug 1st.
Most comments on that board are saying they would rather listen to WBBM on FM than this. A press release from Merlin names a lot of Respected Chicago News Persons that have been hired for the new station. Let's see if they start sounding better. I wish they had a stream so I could listen.
They do however have a new website on Emis Interactive.

Yes, intereactive sure with that poll, but it takes long before the real website is on, still no livestream...pfff ???

So apparently it could "cost you alota mo money" to drive in Illinois at 10 AM.

Nice News music.

Very professional relaunch. especially pounding on the open mic like a Boarding Gate attendant at the Airport.

Merlin may have rushed WWWN to air because of WBBM launching its FM simulcast. They don't have to worry about that in New York, at least not right now! :)

Why was it so important for Merlin to beat CBS to the FM band in Chicago? Just so that they could have bragging rights that they were first with news on FM (by about 2 days)?

I think the 10th anniversary of September 12th, on the other hand, would be appropriate. Not that they should make a big deal about it.

I guess the best way to force Merlin's hand and finally launch all-news on 101.9 would be for CBS to publicly announce an FM simulcast of 1010 WINS or WCBS-AM! ::)

I don't think that Merlin is waiting for some news from CBS that they have plans to start simulcasting one of there AM's on 92.3 FM. That are the rumours, but nothing official yet. In Chicago it was official. Don't know why it takes so long before 101.9 starts but maybe tomorrow, you never know.

Comments online about sister station WWWN in Chicago have been very negative. This includes Chicago radio guru Robert Feder. He wrote in TimeOut Chicago, "The station comes across as a blundering, amateurish, woefully unprepared mess."
It seems clear that it was rushed onto the air to beat all news WBBM's FM simulcast of its AM signal onto the air by a couple of days. Given all of the talent that was hired for it, people seem underwhelmed by the way it is being utilized.
WEMP certainly should try to avoid the same mistake, and not launch even one day before they are fully ready to deliver a quality product. Clearly, organizing the extensive staff and logistics for a news and lifestyle oriented station takes a considerable amount of time.
I hope there is more solid news on the final format than is currently being aired at the top of the hour on WEMP. Much of what I am hearing is fluff, rather than real news.

It might launch gradually in NYC. They could just add more newscasts per hour, increase the frequency of traffic reports, reduce the amount of music till eventually they're playing no music, and one day say 101.9 FM News instead of New.
