No, but it seems absurd to have a host who may be 60 years old on this station. You know very well that Radio and TV have practiced Age Discrimination...
As long as a talent is able to relate to listeners, then they "fit" the format.

Rick Dees was twice the age of his average listener when he left KIIS, and now Seacrest is well outside the target age of CHR stations he is on.

Plenty of comedians and entertainers, from Bob Hope to Johnny Carson were much older than their audience when they were still at their peak.

You brought up the "aging out of her demo" detail. At nearly every station, if a talent still attracts and holds listeners they are, happily, kept under contract.

Sure, they can fake the "relating" part. They stay employed if sales remain viable.

Ryan Seacrest isn't anywhere close to Johnny Carson's league. Totally different eras...

And sales remain viable if the daypart delivers the target demos advertisers want and expect from that station.

Yes, Seacrest reaches vastly more people today than Carson ever did. Daytime TV, syndicated TV, TV specials and a radio show in markets that reach something like 60% of the US population.

In Boston, Matty in the Morning was a CHR legend until he sort of blew himself up. He's 72.

Z100's Elvis Duran is 58. He's not going anywhere. I'm sure there are more.

It's curious that the over 50 crowd is sales poison when it's the audience. My point was that a 60 year old woman is not likely to be "living the lifestyle" of a 21 year old. She's "faking" it to try to be hip. It's up to the listeners & advertisers to decide if it's worthwhile or not...

Are you suggesting firing someone because of their age?

Of course not. Just pointing out how extreme a situation it is age-relating-wise.

I have always thought J Snyder was top drawer talent. It was fortunate for the market that she was happy to stay here.

Janet was on Z100 for I believe 4 years back in the day. So yes she was definitely top market talent.

Obviously, from a glance at the demos of her show, she talks to the interests of her much younger audience because she knows the music, is part of the music's lifestyle, and like the content and songs in her show.

I think the same was true of Matty Siegel, until he went off on Demi Lovato.

You don't have to be the same age of the audience to understand it and relate to it. Dick Clark was good at that.

I believe it was for 2 yrs ('89-'91) and it was overnights, but as time went on and she developed her morning drive skills, she could've held any position on any CHR in the country.

Kiss doesn't care about kids. Audacy cares about 25-49 females. She's close enough to that demo to be relatable. If she delivers the numbers they'll keep paying her.
