August 4, 1980 reminds me of something else

After seeing the Calgary listings for 8/4/80, I'm reminded of
something I'm going to post for probably the umpteenth time--
phase one of the ABC/NBC switch in Atlanta. WXIA had already
picked up Letterman's NBC morning show but I think this was triggered
by the premiere of the soap "Texas" on NBC. With the official date of
the switch scheduled for Sept. 1, it would have made no sense for WSB
to carry it for just four weeks; also, IIRC, WSB was looking for a way to
dump "Another World." Anyway, all the changes were in daytime, with both
hanging on to some shows from the networks they were dropping (schedules
run 7 AM-4 PM):

WSB 7 AM Today (NBC)
9 AM Family Feud (ABC, delay from 12 N)
9:30 Edge Of Night (ABC, delay from 4 PM)
10 AM Mike Douglas (syndicated)
11 AM Love Boat (ABC)
12 N News (local)
12:30 Mary Tyler Moore (syndicated)
1 PM Days Of Our Lives (NBC)
2 PM One Life To Live (ABC)
3 PM General Hospital (ABC)

WXIA 7 AM Good Morning America (ABC)
9 AM Medical Center (syndicated)
10 AM David Letterman (NBC)
11 AM Joker's Wild (syndicated)
11:30 The Doctors (NBC, delay from 12:30 PM)
12 N News (local)
12:30 Ryan's Hope (ABC)
1 PM All My Children (ABC)
2 PM Another World (NBC)
3 PM Texas (NBC)

As of Sept. 1, "Today" and "Days Of Our Lives" would move to Ch. 11,
as would "Wheel Of Fortune" and "Password Plus," although on delay at
9 and 9:30 AM respectively ("Hour Magazine" was on from 11-12); "Card
Sharks" would be Ch. 11's only pre-emption.

"Good Morning America," "Ryan's Hope," and "All My Children" would move
to Ch. 2, with all three shows airing in pattern. There would actually be
less confusion over the ABC schedule, since 11 Alive had carried "Feud"
and "Edge" from 10-11 AM; Ch. 2 carried them an hour earlier to counterprogram
Donahue on WAGA.

WAGA, meanwhile, carried the entire CBS daytime lineup in pattern with the
exception of "One Day At A Time" reruns at 4:

7 AM Morning With Charles Kuralt (CBS)
8 AM Captain Kangaroo (CBS)
9 AM Donahue (syndicated)
10 AM The Jeffersons (CBS)
10:30 Alice (CBS)
11 AM The Price Is Right (CBS)
12 N News (local)
12:30 Search For Tomorrow (CBS)
1 PM Young And The Restless (CBS)
2 PM As The World Turns (CBS)
3 PM Guiding Light (CBS)

This reminds me...Exactly five years later, the Raleigh-Durham market had its own big network switch between its two key players, WTVD-11 and WRAL-TV 5, with the former becoming an ABC O&O and the latter a CBS affiliate.
